Talent and gift DO play an important role in certain things such as singing, drawing, writing etc. The "vision" is something you can't really teach, it has to come from within (imo). The technical stuff sure, that can be taught. Voice lessons, acting lessons, figure drawing, creative writing courses.

In my personal case, I've been drawing since I was 4. It was silly stuff too..just a lot of Super Mario saving the Princess (1985-1986 when NES was hot ). This is something my mom never really pushed on me either (like some parents try to push their kids into sports, piano etc). I kinda just been drawing since I could reliably hold a pen >_> My drawings were everywhere, much to my mom's dismay....on the inner walls, outside walls, my clothes, her important work books (she was a teacher aide back then)..just whatever I could draw on xD I had the "eye" for perspective and that sort of thing without ever going to an art class. My brother and sister had the same innate ability, though they sadly didn't continue with their drawing past high school.

It wasn't until college that I actually had formal technical training. The technical does help a LOT XD Most people who don't have the training tend to try to draw it "perfect" the first time, instead of drawing a rough "draft" and refining it (think of an essay you write for your English classes..you don't start out trying to write the final draft you turn in..you write a rough draft and make continuous refinements..delete something here, add something there). I think that's the most IMPORTANT thing to remember of any creative work...always start loose and work on refining it!

As for other crafts..I've been dabbling with writing (taking a fiction writing course atm at my uni) and I've discovered that while I still have that same "artistic vision", I can't translate it well to word as I can with drawing. The words don't come to me. I know what I want to say, but I fall flat in trying to actually convey it in a sentence. But like others have said, with practice I too, can get better with writing T.T
