Trace or not trace I'm happy with the work of art Shenandoah did for my character and the others.

(I'll repost it here)




Even if inspired or traced is still a work of pure kindness for him to draw random unknown people's characters on this forum. He didn't take any money for it, if he took money for commissions on "traced/stolen" art I might understand the complains but he didnt.

You didn't had to crucifix him like that, seriously. And again: even if traced or not, there's still a lot of work from him to make the effort count.

So, if I drew my character (or any character really), with like square eyes, triangle ears, rectangle nose above my head, and an describable shape for a head....would I catch flak for "copying" Picasso?

If you could put them right on top of each other and all of the lines matched with a few exceptions, yes. .

Also, doing the "phasing" gif makes it appear more similar than it actually is. It's a little unfair of a comparison.

do you really think that that's the same picture? Like, I just totally trace it? They don't exactly line up at all though XD eyes placement, jaw, nose, lips, they all different. I don't understand. It's the same style, yes, of course, but that's not the same picture isn't it?

And even in the ones that's phased, if you really look, some of them don't exactly line up either. Face angle is different, eye placement is different, cheek size, jaw size, etc. It's the same style but it's not the same, isn't it? Unless that's still count as "tracing", then I am sorry that I seem to have misled people. This all stem from the Y'shtola drawing I posted a while back, and it's totally my mistake. I should've clarified from the beginning, and I missed the first reference made to it. I'm truly sorry.

No, see the thing is Noll, I probably would've. And I found out today that that's not okay. I, however, never once say that "please commission me!". I don't even have a set price, and when asked the first time in this thread I was actually surprised people wanted to reward me, of all people, for art. I've seen tons of commission pieces from other people and they're so good and I think those are the ones they should commission. And it's kinda daunting to be honest, I don't know a single thing about commission, what's considered okay to charge people and how long should it take. It's almost scary, so I have been procrastinating in trying to come up with a system. I think that worked out for the best that I got called out, because the last thing I want is people to give me money and then be disappointed in the end. I also don't want to think that I've stolen money from one of my favorite artists. That's a very scary thought.

In the end, I just like to draw. Drawing is fun and that should be a reward in itself. I don't intend to make it a living out of it like a lot of people who is really strifing to get better at it. I'm not trying to play the victim here since I think I did make a mistake, I'm just... more sad that people are arguing with each other because of what I did and derailed the thread for pages. That's my biggest regret. I hope we all can at some point, get back on topic again XD

And I agree with Skivvy, a request thread is probably best, and people who requested can then post their art here.

Side by side you can tell it's not traced. The phasing gif tricks your eyes because it's a gradual transition and makes it virtually impossible to notice subtle differences. Talk about a witch hunt......

I'm sorry you're ashamed of your body. Maybe think about using a Fantasia to switch to Lalafell.

Went from hyur -> lalafell -> elezen.
I soon got tired of lalafell and how little you can see of them and gear.
Only reason why i would change back is just to butt slide as a lalafell and race circles around ppl.

First off, how bout we move both the "OMG draw my character" and the art thief debates to other threads (as this is bound to be locked soon, so thanks for ruining a good thing I guess)?

At this point there is no more use in arguing about art theft & what-not. Shenandoah has made her stance clear. The information is there for people to make their own mind & endless arguments will get us nowhere. Should you wish to continue the discussion then I invite you to make a brand new thread about it.

I also suggest that if you're an artist kind enough to take requests from people then please, make a thread about it. Afterwards feel free to also post that art on here for everyone to see.

Hopefully we've not derailed it too much and fingers crossed the thread will stay open because it used to be awesome.

In any case, here is some more art!
