I don't have the original, but I drew this awhile back with MS paint. And now it's my skype picture.

As Gramul said, anyone is capable if they put work into it. My drawing was horrid before high school (not that it's very good now, perspective still kills me, proportion isn't always correct, and I can't draw a decent hand to save my life), but a bit of practice and learning from others really helps out. And having a model to work off of helps a great deal. Some of my drawings you can clearly see if I was using a model to see perspective and proportion or not.
I started drawing my alt after seeing this thread, maybe I'll post if I progress it further and am happy with the results =p

I've always wondered what my character would look like drawn. I'll have to see what I can do to find someone to help me out with this! haha.
The ability to make art is not specific to certain people. Some pick it up faster than others, no doubt. But, you can't draw because you don't draw. Just do it, seriously. The only caveat is that you must actually want to do it. If you seriously want to do it, you must keep doing it, whether you suck or not, until you get better, and you will if you stick with it. If however, you're just wishing you could draw instead of really wanting to, you're SOL.

My sig was drawn for me by a friend

Wow a lot of people jumped on my "I wish I could draw" comment o.o
You know how lots of people have certain ways of learning things? Some find it easier to learn if they see it in a diagram, others need long drawn out explanations and yet others need to experience the thing themselves? Well, as a whole, people have different ways of thinking and perceiving the world and mine happens to be verbally. I can write about my characters (and I have, that's what I mean by they spoke to me) but I can't picture them in my head even while looking at the characters on the screen. Likewise, I can't picture my mother's face even after living with her almost every day of my life for the last almost 30 years. My mind simply doesn't do visual stuff. Trying to represent something visually (such as drawing, painting, sculpting, etc) isn't my field, whereas writing is.
I like writing and I'm happy writing but I just thought it would be nice if I could get a commission done of the characters I love so much...
This right here, is exactly what we're talking about though. A lot of people get this mindset. That they simply can't do it. If you can put a pencil to paper you can draw. If you sincerely wish you could draw, you can. But only if you try and keep trying. If you want to resign yourself to "I can't," and you're happy with that. That's perfectly fine too. But this is probably the reaction you'll get around artists if you say "I wish I could draw." Believe it or not, you can. But, you have to want it.

You're missing their point.
Art, like writing, is a very technical field. You can learn to draw/paint/etc without having 'talent'.
Now Talent, it's a nifty thing to have. I love it. However, it downright useless if you don't have the technical aspect of art down- especially when what you're trying to draw is a character.
So you may not be the next master artist but that doesn't mean you should deny yourself.
Personally, I've always been a visual person.
I ran away from writing and reading for the longest time- and I always had an excuse. However, it wasn't until I really started to read a lot that I was able to overcome my problem with reading. And it certainly wasn't until I started to actually write that I learned to write.
My first attempts at writing were one liners. I remember the first time I actually wrote a paragraph- well granted it was more of a wall of text but it was a huge moment for me.
Presently, I can write a damn good story. It took a lot of work to get to that point though.
Am I the next Kurt Vonnegut, Stephen King, or Tolkien? No, not by a long shot- but like I said, I can write a damn good story.
edit:
