Upshot of linking characters? Simple. People will now be able to consider if you've tried to play the game or not.

Got a char at rank 1 and are ripping the game apart as if you'd played it solidly since alpha? People will no longer be able to take you seriously.

Got a character at rank 36-50 and rip into the game? You've got a bit of backing for your argument.

Got a character at Rank 1-50 and don't rip into the game and/or troll? That's cool, because you're not trying to be controversial in the first place. Making you not need credentials for your non-existant arguments about the game. ^_^

i been getting NM gear for both me and my gf and a few friends even a fun Japanese person my gf meet. All the troll would leave
when this game goes P2P. Before this new char link i could talk on the ffxi forums that i need to have a char which = you have to pay for the game. Not if troll really want to pay 12.99$ a month for a failing game like they said and go on trolling then they really have no life.

This isn't facebook, A good majority of the people you interact with on the forums are on different servers. They couldn't troll you if they wanted to in game. Besides, aren't there rules against that, as well as message editing options, in the Lodestone in case you maintain a blog?

Might I ask, why? I have never understood the idea of separating your forum and in-game name/character/etc. Only other than trolls of course, but you say you're not one!

I did have an earlier character shown in my sig some time back. Ceronyx Nelios, doesn't exist anymore anyway. Now to why I currently hold back from showing myself, I'm afraid of serious backlash because of a comment that may one day slip because of how these forums currently are. Everybody's going about for what SE should do, what they shouldn't do, and there's nothing stopping anyone at this time from making a free character onto your own realm to spam insults at you only because they may not like your comments.

I've seen live streams of people suddenly having viewers create characters on their server just to annoy the hell out of the caster.

If they do that then you report them for harrassment, also they cant make unlimited characters because they would need more codes, which in the box you get 2, the one on the manual and the guest pass, so if somone was gonna buy more than one box just to harrass somone over a forum post they have more issues to worry about than harrassing somone over a forum post.

If I see people with a r1 mule linked I would see them as a troll and nothing more, because there is no other reason to link a mule. if people keep spamming you about a forum post it is against the ToS because it is harrassment, there is also the blacklist and you would eventually blacklist all their characters, these people arent rmt that make thousands of mules they are just trolls and will not go through the cost of buying more codes just for troll characters
