An idea for combating RMT tells. Everyone please let me know what you think.

This would be an opt *in* feature not an opt out feature.

This chat feature is basically a filter that prevents strangers from sending you tells.

Players that are *not* strangers and are thus exempted (aka White-listed) from the filter:

    1. Players in your free company
    2. Players on your friend list
    3. Players in any of your linkshells
    4. Players that you yourself have sent a tell
    5. Players you manually add to the white-list
    6. Leaders of Party finders
    7. Filter is turned off when you have "Looking to meld matieria" status turned on

This list should cover any possible situation.

And let me say again that this would be an opt *in* filter meaning this would start out as turned "off" to start and turned on only by choice of the player. Please "like" if you think this is a good idea.

Because the only strangers sending tells are RMT bots. You do realize your point 4 is contradicting in the sense that the person you are sending it to might not receive it due to your suggestion?

Can't send tells to PF party leaders too.

If you had read the OP's post, you would've noticed that with this feature you could just leave it off if you like being bothered by total strangers. Admittedly, you are right about the point 4, but otherwise I like the looks of this suggestion, and would have it set to "On" permanently if it would ever be added in.

I don't think this is necessarily a bad idea, but think of what will happen to legitimate players who do not fall into that criteria and try to contact you.

Either 1) they receive no reply at all, and think you are AFK or ignoring them if they know that you are at your computer, or 2) they get some weird message about how you're unable to receive tells due to the filter, which might make them think you're antisocial, a jerk, or a bot. That could lead to an increase in pointless support tickets filed against valid players who just want to avoid RMT spam.

That thought did occur to me. However, I have yet to think of a reason why a tell (Besides an RMT) would be sent to a random stranger. That's why I suggested the opt in part.

Oh! Just thought of number 7!

This would be like a terrorist painting a big bullseye on his cave, making it that much easier to blow him up.
