I've already said I agree with that, it just has to be a good enough reason to keep people traveling instead of not caring about the random events and just resort to teleporting. its sort of the same situation with chocobos and airships, why in the world would you bother paying for either one of those and taking the time to use it when you could just teleport in an instance to any corner of the world? At this point the incentive is not great enough to bothering with chocobo/airship when its just as easy if not easier to teleport anywhere you want go..Well I don't think it would have to be huge in a tangible sense. It would just have to be engaging. I don't completely disagree with your points, and what's funny is I think in a vague way we're looking for the same thing. I know that I don't want to see teleporting reduced or removed just yet. But at the same time, If chocobos ever are implemented I would like to use those, and I'd like a real incentive to use them over teleporting. I just don't feel that jumping straight to restricting a player's option is the best fix to an issue like this.
I think it's safe to say that a good amount of players would like more content, why not make it that there are certain quests that can only be started if a randomly spawned npc is found while running from here to there. These quests can involve fighting certain mobs that normally couldn't be found, or can reward untradable items with great stats or benefits. Why not have secret areas such as caves that have a chance of holding chests inside. Instead of forcing people to run and waste time while not having fun, why not make it so that traveling itself IS fun. I think there are a lot of ways to encourage traveling without making it hard for those without the time.
@geniusPrime - I was wrong to say YOU when i was actually just generalizing the population of people who spend their entire day teleporting. Sorry.
Your last post is stupid, nobody would look at the obvious, the way they will see it is that it was quick and easy and they finished it.. not that teleporting made it too quick. BTW I'm not only talking about now also talking about the future of the game.

Mort, I hope you realise by now that I am not in strong disagreement to some of your points just the basis of people leaving the game as result of teleporting frequently causing them to finish the game is not really valid. The other reasons stated, I can agree with (might be a one or two that I may disagree with) but that specific one hold no merit independent of perspective.
I do understand that running out of stuff to do makes the game uninteresting and may cause people to leave but that is a different issue all together which still has to be addressed by the devs.
I guess i dont see how giving somone a way to finish a game 10x quicker is not a valid reason for people to become bored with finished content faster?Mort, I hope you realise by now that I am not in strong disagreement to some of your points just the basis of people leaving the game as result of teleporting frequently causing them to finish the game is not really valid. Hey thanks. I'd like to see more productive threads where people can collectively brainstorm and potentially fix a lot of the issues with the game. It seems like emotion usually wins out over progress though![]()
The Limsa and Ul'dah airship docks exist in the game world but are currently inaccessible. They will be accessed from the city's elevator/lift as an additional floor you can select from the menu.
I really hate teleporting. It makes me feel like I'm playing on a private server where I can type a command and poof go anywhere I want like a GM. Seriously, chocobos and airships, this is supposed to be a Final Fantasy game.
How about an equipable item like an "Aetherite Ring" (perhaps crafted) that has 5-10 charges with a 60 minute cooldown? It would need to be recharged either by an NPC or a crafter. It could start out with few charges but can be upgraded with Materia or replaced with a higher lvl Ring/Earring/Necklace.
You would still need to "Attune" it to the Aetherites by visiting them (on foot) initially.
Papa was a rolling stone...wherever he laid his barbut was home.
well im only rank 43 because everyone quit and I got bored, i'm not really talking about the way the game stands right now, im talking more the future of the game. I personally am more of a casual player myself because I'm lazy and want to sit in town and talk with people more then i actually want to run back and forth completing the entire game (or doing gawd awful leves). In the 9 years I played FFXI i only got to like level 73 whm partly because i didnt have the time to dedicate like everyone else who seemed to be on 24 hours but I also like to explore and just socialize. All my friends where always 10 steps ahead of me. The majority of people always have and will finish the content before me. Look at all the people that rush to 50 ASAP and then just run around basically saying "look at me im super cool and rank 50 mwa hahahaha", Happens all the time.
BTW i just wanted to mention i think it was rinsui or renshi that mentioned when i hit 300 posts my heart will explode, i think it did, and now i'm dead.![]()
