Not really....lol. It took that long because most people dispersed the currency among their linkshell or sold the currency rather than focus on one person. It takes a month or less these days to do a Relic (75), it took awhile back then because the Relic Weapon was the BiS weapon that added a unique weapon skill which gave you a buff of some kind, for example Dark Knight's gave them a haste effect iirc. A lot of people rotated content due to the 2-3 day cool down, so it took awhile because linkshells usually focused on all content end-game.

That's the difference, it was a long term goal to create the ultimate weapon, like any FF game - You usually start the quest at the beginning or middle of the game, but MMO wise it has to be end-game obviously.
