Perfect retainer job question

Hi
my main and only combat class is a smn,now for my gathering/crafting jobs
im going on too try to max a botanist,after that maxing a alchemist for the class itself and it being the main hand that deals with my main combat class.

now with that said,what would be the best job for my retainer?
what items do i need most that i cant get with my current setup that my retainer would be the best fit for?

Retainers are level capped 5 levels below the level you have on the same class until you have level 50 in that class. So if you don't want to level any other class you can only set your retainers to arcanist or botanist.

Alchemist pulls its crafting material almost equally from all three gathering classes plus hunting, so whatever you pick for your retainer will help, but botany probably would be best because most of the raw mined components needed are low level except for your sand for your ink, which you can get from crafting leves.

so it is true that at my current setup i can only truly lvl arcansit and botany on my retainer?

I'd like to point out a few things: First, if you're going to level any DoL/DoH, you should level them all. There is a LOT of overlap between the skills, plus for DoH you'll want cross-class abilities to make high-quality items.

Secondly, the point of a retainer venture isn't necessarily to get things you cannot (though exploration ventures can do that...), but rather to help in cases where a drop is annoying to get. Hunting and fishing are probably the best examples, given that both are fairly random, and hunting in particular can be overcamped to hell and back.

Adding to this, you can not specify to your retainer to go out and gather things you yourself have not gathered on your own botanist/miner. They may be able to get them from random ventures, however.

Simply put - there is no point having two retainers on two different (or even same) DoM / DoW classes as they'd both bring back the same items and can perform exactly the same ventures (in all 3 categories) independent of the "battle" class so if you want a bit of variety (in ventures and most of all items gathered) keep one retainer on (any) battle class and one on DoL - so in your case I'd go for botanist for sure.

since you can only have it lvl in one "job" type and they take consumables venture tokens figure id iron out what would be best now then 60 tokens in later.

Honestly, the best option would be to pay for two more retainers, then have one miner, one botanist, one fisher, and one battle class.
