I've finally got enough Thav onion seeds to start planting. Any recommendations on what to pair it with and soil type? I know there's no loop for it currently.

Onions behave like Krakka in terms of crossbreeding, so plant the onions with whatever you were using with Krakka to get the 2nd tier choco seeds, and you might be some of those.
As for what soil to use, rule of thumb is that if it's not a plant that has a static yield (glazenuts, thav onions, broombush, jute, minions, etc.) and you actually have a use for it, use Thanalan soil. I use Shroud soil only for Krakka and chocofruits (since I use those in bulk), and Thanalan for basically everything else as there's no point gardening if you're not constantly crossbreeding. There's always the small chance of getting 9x seeds from the Shroud-planted stuff at least.

since they are not affected by the soils, that i can tell, I use grade one any soil I have in the FC chest....esp if I'm planting a full bed of them...

Has anyone gotten 9 mandrake seeds from a Almond/Krakka (or cocofruit) cross using shroud soil? I haven't seen anyone post pictures of them doing so.
I'm new to planting, but I want your guys opinion on my theory. For the coco fruits, thanlan gives you a mandrake seed if you fail to get a Sylkies Bud, while Shroud doesn't give you any seeds if you fail, but if you succeed you get 9 Sylkies Bud seeds.
Also does using shroud soil work on the Almond side of the cross? For me than has been pretty unreliable, only 3/7 has crossed.

Yes - it's well known fact metioned and documented by pictures several times in this very thread. Shroud soil have about 10(-ish)% of crossbreed in avarage (and I run lot of gardens with it to reach that) and gives always 9 seeds if succesfull bread happens. In effect - for plants with large yield it's better to use Shroud soil as you'll end up with more or less same amount of seeds and also double the yield of the actual plants (mailnly choco food and colouring fruits). This is very usefull for example when you aim for Sylkis Bud seeds in Almond & Krakka Root cross loops. I've got over 200 Sylkis bud seeds just in a couple of weeks.

No, this was my second round of Jute so the Mandrakes were in place when I planted the Jute...then the Mandrakes were replaced - using grade 3 Than soil on all of it...either way it doesn't really matter - just trying again to see if I get luckier. I've been my FC gardener for quite some time..was just looking to see if there were other crosses we weren't aware of.
Thanks anyway tho.

Just a quick question from a noob gardener. If I have A > B for cross seed C, is it only harvesting the A's that will give me a chance at C while B's are stricly used to give me the cross results on the A's?
*edit * and that's with A > B as the notation from the gardening site.

It's not necessarily the case. That notation is mostly for the website and its contributors to cover their asses. All crosses I've done have been two-way and it very well may be the case but since the people submitting haven't gotten seeds from both plants in that particular combination it's far safer for them to not make assumptions and mark it as a one-way cross as that is the result of their experimentation and potentially incomplete information is better than incorrect information.Just a quick question from a noob gardener. [Broombush / almond / sylkis ] is this the best self sustaining combo for thavn onion? I'm trying to maximize my only garden...

It is definitely my preferred combo, but I suppose that [Jute / Mandrake / not-sure-which-chocobofood ] would work much in the same way.
These are easiest because mandrake/almonds can be harvested and are thus in limitless supply, as opposed to the evil known as Apricot Kernels.
