For jobs like Black Mage I would probably agree, but the various melee DPS in 11 were pretty watered down already. I would say Monk is far more enjoyable in 14.Pretty much yes. The classes/jobs are such watered-down versions of their FFXI counterparts that I feel little to no excitement at playing them. That said, while I'd love to see other jobs like Ninja, Red Mage, or Dancer released I have to temper my enthusiasm with the knowledge they'll be as bland and uninspiring as the current choices. It'll just be a different flavoured whack-a-mole.

Monk is one of the few FFXI jobs I didn't play past 20 but, I agree with you, it didn't exactly seem busy with skills. I predominantly played ninja, paladin, dancer, corsair and to a lesser extent bard and white mage. The differences in skillsets between some of those jobs in FFXI and FFXIV is massively significant and rather saddening.
PLD at 50 was Flash spam, Fast Blade or RLB, Sentinel and the occasional self cure. BRD at 50 used maybe 3 songs regularily. WHM had 4 cures but only used 3 because Cure IV could get you killed. Other than that it was pro/shell every 30 mins and remove a few statuses between cures.Monk is one of the few FFXI jobs I didn't play past 20 but, I agree with you, it didn't exactly seem busy with skills. There's a few jobs I really like playing, but the ones I like most haven't been added yet. Only a matter of time until they add Thief and Samurai though, and one of the things I like most about XIV is how the game world feels like it's growing and changing as time goes on- much like how Revenant's Toll expands with each major patch.
I'm content with playing the jobs I do like, while watching the game world grow around me. I wonder how long it'll take before we've got access to Ishgard, or maybe an expansion to Garlemald...
