Well the current classes/jobs are standard MMO cliches. We have tanks healers and dps types. The Final Fantasy job part is basically just different skins over the three types.
I'm sure we'll get you RDMs and NINs sooner or later but to expect something else that you're now getting is dumb. They're still going to be tweaked into just one of the three types.
If it's just asthetic tweak you're looking for then you have nothing to worry about. Maybe just take a break until the expansion or so?
Not enough cool abilities for the sake of balance makes it bland. Just like gear stats are bland.
Most of 11s jobs weren't much different at level 50. I prefer less abilities that all get used rather than 100 abilities that I only use 6 of. Even BLU only really used 4 or 5 spells at 50 and 1 WS. Also at 75 cap the elemental weaknesses were irrelevant in 11 too. Mages all spammed Thunder V unless the monster was extremely resistant or absorbed it. Now in 11 they spam Stone because it has the best damage/MP ratio. No one ever nuked monsters with the weak element.

Unlike in FFXI, I enjoyed 90% of the jobs I have played in XIV, especially DRG and PLD. As for XI, I hardly could get into the jobs. DRG was alright, but I preferred most DNC. That's probably the only job I truly liked in that game. Then again I started also in 2007, which made it way too overwhelming for me.
C'est Vie ou Mort!
The thing is in this game all the jobs are actual able to be used. In FFXI over half the jobs were useless depending on what the patch brought. For example jobs like blm and rdm have been relatively useless in XI endgame for the longest time. When I stopped playing after the last patch whm was (and probably still is) the only healer, whereas sch my favorite job was a stunbot. This game seems much more balanced with regards to classes.

It's sad because when you look at the general picture the game is fantastic, but it lacks something about the jobs, the spells. The word "bland" has accurately been used.
I know I'll get stoned to death but look at WoW, I was a Shaman at heart and 90% of your spellbook was useful in some maner or another, but there was a LOT more abilities than we got now, and a lot more classes to choose from, I could support my team with totems, elementals and even cures if shit hit the fan WHILE being a dps, that's a big no no in xiv. Thing is, I'm a mage guy, but I absolutely hate blm ( forced to dynamis as blm back in FFXI is not fun ), so what does that leave me with when I hate pure melee toons ? Not much actually ...
The other thing I dislike is the lack of versatility in classes, tank dps dps heal ... that's it. While in WoW, although you had no pure support roles (aside from heal, unlike ffxi), each and every class has an array of features they can contribute to the team. We don't have that in XXIV, and what we have is lame ( apocastasis ? ).
Just a shame because it's otherwise a fantastic game. /sigh

I'll never understand this obsession people have with wanting a zillion useless abilities.

The problem is that many of the already few skills we have are useless, or very rarely used.
BLM - Freeze, Apocostasis, Blizzard 1 and 2 once you have 3, aetherial manipulation, Thunder 2, Surecast.
WHM - Repose, Fluid Aura
SMN - Tri-disaster, Enkindle (people use it but let's face it at equal, if that, damage to fester and a huge CD timer, it doesn't add much)
BRD - Army's Paeon, Rain of death (only used when free procced), Quick nock (same as RoD)
DRG - Feint, Keen Flurry, Piercing Talon, Ring of Thorns, Doom Spike (people use it but twice the tp cost of a normal skill and not even worth the damage unless fully buffed), Dragonfire Dive (ridiculous CD for something that does less damage than jump)
MNK - Rockbreaker, One-Ilm Punch, Fists of Earth, Featherfoot, Haymaker, Perfect Balance (it's nice in certain situations don't get me wrong, but the loss of combo bonuses usually far outweigh the benefits of using it)
PLD - Shield Swipe (resistance built and the requirement of a block to use it, works on some skills but not others, lots of things immune to it), Tempered Will (mostly used for convenience rather than actual combat usefulness), Cover (if you have the time to use this skill it's time you could better spend on just taking hate off the target and bringing it back to you), Awareness (loss of chance for crit heals)
WAR - Steel Cyclone (Inner Beast is a better use of wrath), Mercy Stroke (if it's that close to being dead, the bard has already sniped it with misery's end, if not you wasted it)
And there are plenty of other skills that, while useful are severely underwhelming. The point is that making fewer skills doesn't make it a better game, it just makes the useless skills painfully more obvious.

simple, options. And they just need to make them NOT useless ?
