I haven't checked in a while, so I'm not sure how full my ward is, but I can't imagine that many lots have been taken. Though I can imagine a lot of small lots are gone. I think if they run out of space they'll add a few wards.

Yes, they said they would as demand rose.

There are people starting solo FCs and buying FC housing for personal use. Which was the point of the high prices. FC Housing is for FCs not individuals. The pricing is fine for the FC sizes intended for each house size.

We all know that the servers are squeaking under the pressure of the housing system.

What bothers me is how complacent everyone is to this excuse.
When they decided to rebuild XIV the biggest reason they stated was the fact that the server structure was bad and not flexible for future changes.

Now we have 2.0 and we're getting the exact same excuse?!

They pretty much gave up on open world large scale events due to the unstable zones in those areas after launch.

Based on this should we now assume that once the game is built there's nothing they can do to improve the servers?
There's certainly need for it on multiple fronts. Lag, number of gear stored on character the need to hike up prices of housing because they feared the servers would blow up and the inability to add more now that they are needed.

I hope this doesn't make the personal housing lackluster instanced rooms because it's all they can do.

You're making broad assumptions based on nothing more than when they said they wanted to release personal housing later to make sure they could meet the demand. Otherwise I have no idea why you are going off about lag and servers in this thread.

They have said the server load is the reason why the plot space is limited. It's only one part of bigger troubles they have with the servers on all fronts. The fact that they were specifically redesigned for arr due to these reasons kinda sends the message that when server issues are used as an excuse the devs are basically lifting their arms in the air claiming there's nothing that can be done about it.

Right now it's pointless to debate if housing area will be increased or not. It's pretty much up to them and the fact that can they even improve the way the servers work in this regard or not. If it requires investing more money to the upkeep of servers they already said that investing money to upcoming patches and expansion takes priority over spending money on servers. Keep your fingers crossed I guess?

They are clearly actively working on getting the most out of the servers they already have. All we can do is wildly speculate, and who doesn't enjoy that?

If you don't, then don't click here:
My wild speculation is that before 2.2 instance servers were not being used very efficiently. Servers were hosting FC houses with nobody in, sitting at full memory from all the houses being loaded at once (many with no people in at a given time, I rarely see people in house of my FC), but very low actual CPU utilisation. Which could probably be said of many dungeon instance servers. Quite hard to justify spending a load of cash on new servers if you are only using 20% of the capabilities of the current ones.

So in that situation it would make sense to identify ways to make better use of the current servers. Like maybe if nobody is in a house, unload it and free up the resources. Before 2.2 some servers were more than likely just running a set number of instances of a particular set of dungeons/houses, and so the load would be fairly controllable. Some servers would be rammed to capacity (WP/AK in the early days with 45 mins queues to enter with a full party), and others sitting idle.

Now they have set the groundwork to spread the load more evenly, and operate the instance servers in a more "cloudy" fashion, which once the kinks have been ironed out and the thresholds established for how many instances it's "safe" to run per server, will mean much more efficient use of the current servers. And if the capacity still isn't enough, they can just add more to the pool at that point, and be sure that they get full value out of the new servers.

Just my theory. We just don't know. All we know is that they promised more housing, and made some changes in 2.2 which were listed as groundwork for those changes. I don't doubt they will figure it out, and once they have done all that they can in software, will look to hardware as required.
