    Play with CoMPaSsiOn

A friend of mine has a physical handicap that severely limits his motor functions. It's actually pretty amazing what he has been able to do, as he uses the mouse with his left hand (still with great difficulty), while his right hand can do little more than make inputs with one finger. He has to work so much harder to do what we all take for granted and it is truly inspirational to see him in action.

I've seen him perform in some games to the point where you would never know that he was playing with such a severe impairment, but sometimes no matter how hard he tries, he makes a mistake. Every time I'm in a duty finder and someone messes up, I always think of my friend and imagine that many people out there are dealing with hurdles in life that we may not even be able to comprehend.

So next time someone does something silly, instead of calling them a retard, remember that they might actually be mentally handicapped and just trying the hardest they can to get some enjoyment out of life. Play with compassion and remember that there are a lot of people out there that are not as fortunate as others, but still try as hard and deserve respect not ridicule.

The problem is most people that make a mistake are infact just playing brain afk and not victim of a handycap.

I think it's awesome your friend has his fun though and strongly encourage you and his/your FC to help him otu every way you can. But I doubt the DF will be as kind :/

I know the feeling. My mother plays and she's 65. Her reflexes (both mental and physical) have slowed. She does the best she can but I think she may have hit her limit with story mode Garuda. She's just not fast enough to take out the plumes. And after the way one tank behaved when we kept wiping, she's refusing to do anymore dungeons unless it's a FC group since they are very understanding and willing to work twice as hard to make up for her slow reflexes.

Such an awesome post. This goes also toward to daily life situation. We see people make mistakes, but we don't know their story. I personally went through a period of time that I needed to deal with a lot of internal conflict in my head which affected my daily life. After that experience, I always give people a benefit of the doubt, the person you see struggling with some basic stuff might be going through something huge in their life and just trying to do the best to move-on/survived. Don't quickly judge someone based on little things, as specially when it comes to a game: it's just a game.

On a sidenote, last night, before the server went down for maintenance, I was in a HM dungeon. I was having a very tough time healing due to the lag, we wiped a couple of times at the first two bosses. I apologize non-stop thinking the tank and DPS is going to hate me. The tank was nice enough and said "it's okay, don't try too hard, it's just a game." I actually have met many good people on DF.
