Choosing Retainer Venture Class

Hi all,

In the interview and patch notes, they stated that the ilvl of your retainer class will yield better results. The retainer shares items with our characters, so I see it as extra storage for equipment. However even if the items are shared, they cant be used on both your character and the retainer at the same time, assuming both classes are the same. So my question is at lvl 50, should I choose a retainer class that is the same my main? As my main is i90, that will guarantee best results for ventures. But I also cant raid (without items) while the retainers are venturing. I havent exactly tested whether I can remove items while they are on a venture yet, but reasoning suggests that its better to leave them on even if you can for maximum effect. Or is it better to choose an alt class that I seldom/never play? I can always greed items from dungeons/coil to be used on it. Thanks.

You cannot change equipped items or class of a retainer unless you cancel the venture. I made mine alt classes like fisher to gather materials I can't myself.

If you want a retainer to be maximum level it is best to have your retainer in a class you have at 50.
We have yet to see the difference in ilvl 50-100 for retainers to know what is really worth it.

But like it was said once you send your retainer on a venture you cannot unequip it.

What Thaliss said - also, Retainers can't gather anything you haven't got checked-off in your own gathering log. They're more like the gatherer version of Quick Synthesis than a replacement for levelling a gathering class properly.

Really you have to gather the item first yourself before the retainer can? Was this in the patch note? I might have missed it.

I found it out the hard way with La Noscea Orange seeds.

Also, so far my Retainers can only gather what's obtainable with the main-hand tool, so only from the yellow logging/mining nodes. I've got a level 15 botanist and a level 15 miner and as of yet they can't get me anything from the blue harvesting/quarrying nodes.

ETA: both my retainers are in the best HQ gear they can wear for their level, so stats shouldn't be an issue either.

ETA2: Just to clarify this is only for the directed gathering ventures, not for the exploration ventures.

Might seem an obvoius question but - have you equipped them with the second hand tools?

I'm hoping at this point that it's just something that'll unlock when I get them to a higher level.

I take most of that back, as I checked again and my Botanist can get stuff from both logging and harvesting nodes, so not sure why some stuff shows up on the list and some doesn't.
