EDITED Again- This isn't about Casual vs Hardcore so some people really need to stop with that argument please.
This picture was in another thread Its from T7. On the end is Unidentified Allagan Tomestone, Which is used to upgrade Weathered Weapons. Oils of Time is next to it used to upgrade Accessories. So far no one has found Sands of Time, Which are used to upgrade Weathered Gear bought with Tomestones of Soldiery. I'm Pretty sure it is safe to assume that they drop from the new Coils. So there in lies the problem I have. Pre 2.2 if we didn't get anything from Coils we could Just buy Relic Gear. Not saying that everyone here has the worst luck on getting gear they need for their mains, but Tanks/Healers had it the worst. There was a few people that changed their main to DRG/MNK because that was the only gear dropping.
Now the problem I have Post 2.2 with these new items (SoT/OoT/UAT) is that so far the only way to get them is from Coils and only one drops. We don't even know if the UAT is 100% drop or if we will have to deal with RNG (most likely RNG). Now lets assume its 100% drop(UTA) and you have a static, That would take 8 players 8 weeks to get one each to upgrade a Weathered Weapon unless they drop in other turns. That isn't so bad, I could see that as a nice possibility. Now lets look at it from a actual reality standpoint UTAs aren't 100% (I kinda hope they are). It could take more than 2 months for a static to get, If you don't have a static..... Would rather not think about it. A 100% drop rate from at least one turn on a UTA would be nice. Oh and don't forget you need 1,300 Soldiery Tomes for the Tokens that's 3 weeks of nothing but saving and not buying any gear.
Now second problem (again all these are assumptions as to where Sands of Time drop) If you have really bad luck in Coil RNG department then you have Weathered Gear that you can use to help. This gear is only ilvl100 Allagan gear is ilvl110 and no upgrading needed. You need one Sands of Time to upgrade Weathered Gear to ilvl110. Assuming they drop from Coils you then have to deal with RNG, Lockout, and casting Lots against 7 other player. If you are in a static and none are greedy and you haven't gotten anything then maybe you'll be able to get. If you don't have a static and you have had bad luck with drops then you will fall behind if you aren't able to get the SoT.
Now my original post is below, But to many are for the whole "The best gear should only come from the hardest Content" and "If you don't plan on doing the hardest content why do you need the best gear?" That's fine, I myself do not have an issue with doing the hardest content for the best gear. Now I do have a problem with the fact that Both sets of High End gear are basically coming from one place that has a weekly lockout/RNG/Casting against other. Allagan Gear from Coils understandable, Items needed for Upgrades no. If we are unable to obtain Coils gear and unable to upgrade due to bad RNG then some people are going to fall behind. I can't speak for other, But my first static had to put off T5 for a long time because Tank/Healer gear wasn't dropping. Yes there are players who beat T5 in Darklight and other pieces, But not everyone are those players( you know who they are). We don't know what is going to be needed for T9 yet. 10 ilvl difference from the HQ/NQ may not sound like a lot but adding it up over a few pieces on the left side could make or break some players.
I don't think we should have to deal with Lockouts on top of lockout with RNG and then win the lot. Have to buy the gear which takes weeks, And then you have to do Coils, Deal with RNG and then cast lots against 7 other player Static or no static.
So what should be changed(or hope its that way) is the UTA be a 100% drop From at least T7. And for the Sands of Time those should be a drop in T6 and fall to everyone 100% like how you get ADS plating/frame, And not drop from any other turn. So then each week at least one person in the party is guaranteed to get a UTA, and everyone in a party is guaranteed to get a SoT to upgrade their Weathered gear.
I really hope that these drop in other places besides the new CoB areas. Its already bad enough we have to buy 10 Tokens with Soldiery Tomes that have a lockout, But to deal with the weekly lockout and RNG for these is just absurd. I'm going to take a stab in the dark and assume the Sands of Time also drop in the new CoB?
What happened to being able to gear up from different paths? Pre 2.2 we had Allagan(coils) gear and Relic (myth)gear. So why now are 2 gear paths becoming one? Assuming Sands of Time also drops there.
Not everyone has the best luck in the game. Not to make this about me but I still haven't gotten my Striking Pants in T1 and I had that on farm for 5 months. And I went 3 months without a drop. So if it wasn't for me being able to buy Relic Gear I would have fallen behind.
You don't need to put all your eggs in one basket. I like the way 2.2 progression is Soldiery Gear>New Allagan Gear, kinda what a lot of us wanted. But to force everyone to do CoB for items just to upgrade and deal with RNG is a bit ridiculous. I myself don't mind doing Coils and I don't have any issues, But there are a lot of players who don't have the skill to do the content and having higher ilvl gear makes it easier for them.
