the current set up is just a Gate to prevent too many players from getting their ilvl 100 Relic until 2.3 and 2.4 is released. As stated already the Relic will get new Upgrades each Patch which means the ilvl 110 relic is in 2.3. When 2.3 hits we will most likely see a increase in drop rates to Atma or the Drop rate removed so it can be placed on the ilvl 110 Souls in 2.3 and that players can start working on Animus since the actual expect rate of people entering Coil 2 is not meant to be at a high population until 2.3 when CT 2nd raid is released for more ilvl 100 gears and Relic ilvl 110 Quests is released.

Even if players get Atma now they still have about 1 month worth of work to get the stats the real ilvl 100 relic being Animus since Atma stats are still the ilvl 90 Relic until yet get all 9 book upgrades.

Only benefit for getting Atma and Animus before 2.3 hits with the ilvl 110 Relic is that players will have a head start if the RNG god allows them to get their Atma in 2.2 within the 3 month until 2.3 hits from now.

For those of us who are able to take the patience to get it, we have what it takes to max out the weapons, and have the 'honor' of being one of the few to hold them. Or something like that anyway, it was a random possible epiphany moment.
You sure sing a different tune than just a little while ago.

Hope you aren't that hypocrite with that elitist attitude that looks down on people with worse luck now that the rng gods decide to smile on you. I apologize if I'm mistaken, but this complete U-turn and the sound of your post sure sounds that way.

He understands now that a hand-out would be the inferior option.

It's a shame that the new patch is not living up to the hype imo.
atma literally only exists for the sake of giving grind-lovers something to do with their life. There are tons of other weapons acquirable the same way every other weapon in the game is acquired.

Yet, for some stupid reason, everyone has tunnel vision for the crappy Atma stuff.

Okay, guess 2.2 was a flop then

Well, we have yet to see the actual Zodiac Weapons. 2.2 is just part one of a two timer, so just got to wait till the 2.25. I already decided to go for Masterworks, Best to do Atma out of peak hours on a server and solo fates or just wait for a drop increase.

100 to 110 gear, after all.

I really don't think it matters. The moment I heard about the Atma quest it was obvious to me it's just a grind for the sake of a grind. A quick check on Xivdb confirms it. The Animus weapon is to the Tidal Wave weapons as the EX Primal weapons are to the Zenith. They're just an alternate path to (generally) the same result. One, you grind fates/tomes. Other, you defeat powerful bosses.

And considering the vast difference in power between Animus and the strongest current weapons avaliable, it is highly unlikely these new weapons will outpower any newer ones added to the game anytime soon, if even at all. At the very least, it'll be equal in strength to the non-grindy weapons.

    Umm... no...
    The Atma is gradually upgraded...
Complete one book and the Atma get a stat upgrade...
Complete another book and you get another stat upgrade on the Atma...
Complete all 9 books and you have the max stat upgrades...
Then you can exchange the fully upgraded Atma for an Animus which has an additional stat upgrade.

It's only until you complete the first book that it's the same as the i90 Relic Zenith...

Atma is designed to encourage FATEs which were severely lacking in Patch 2.1. FATEs have been rejuvenated in every part of the world (except Coerthas? WTF?) to help grind up more L50s per character. It's a great idea, it's just terribly time consuming.

My biggest worry is how tired players are going to get of it and just give up. It's frustrating and feels like wasted hours if you don't get it, and you have nothing to show for an entire day's worth of grinding things you don't need. Even my Chocobo is barely gaining any EXP to care.

I think this was a really bad move on Square-Enix's part. We all want this game to succeed, and they really blew it with unnecessary grinding during the weeks of ESO and WS. On the other hand we have another 3 months before any major content comes out. I just hope that Square continues to monitor what they're doing. Players on awkward time zones or third shift players are going to despise this with a passion.
