I dunno man, I just spent 6 months killing marmots and dodos, only to have new content added, and what were the first two quests I got? "Kill 8 marmots" and "Kill 8 dodos"...

    What changed?

Try reading the dialogue? You know, it's pretty interesting content and gives some nice flavor.

I know, "reading" is such an alien concept....

The problem from what I see is that majority of players in this game are people who play ONLY FFXI before, so they never experience other game to know good/bad part of different system yet.

They only think that they play FFXI before and like it, so why change it?

Of course, some may try other MMO after FF11 too, but I think that is less than half.

thay can find a happy medium to this game. I allways say if thay take what worked so well in 11 ( the UI, Macros, serch functions, and over all flow) then this game would be so damn epic! Granted i really like 14 but i would leave my wife( not really) if it were that sexy with the flow.

I definitely don't want a clone of FFXI or any other MMO. I'm really hoping that they find a balance of elements from FFXI, other mmo's, and their own artistic vision for the game. I think that being rabid fans of any one game can be a bad thing. It can lead to people not wanting to step out into new territory.

Perhaps a mixture of both. It would be foolish for SE to forget about everything they have learned in FFXI, but still we need something that isn't quite FFXI.

I am a ffxi veteran with 7 years under my belt BUT i have played other MMOs also so i don't completely agree with making this FFXI-2 as some statements lean towards. I don't however want this to be like WoW and be easy mode. I also played WoW for 2 years(even the latest cata xpac). Still not a fan of the game but always felt FFXIV should meet somewhere in the middle. It should give plenty of OPTIONS to level BUT give the best way and most rewarding to those that seek parties. This way those that don't have much time can still progress. This i believe is one of the major factors that allowed WoW to prosper so much(just way too easy for my tastes).
Nobody wants WoW, let's just get that out of the way. Everyone calling for new features is doing so out of pure vision for a better future, not as an attempt to change FFXIV for the worst into an outdated game like WoW... or FFXI for that matter.

You mentioned new generation in your thread title, and that's exactly the case here. FFXI and WoW are both very outdated when compared to the games coming out this generation.

If i ever reference another MMO for suggestions it is usually only Mortal Online, DaoC, TERA, Guild Wars 2, ArcheAge etc., games which all had or will have certain elements which worked, and which I can see working in FFXIV.

Lol gifthorse i can just say we think very similar whether my posts reflect it or not. I agree with the posts of yours I read even if i wouldn't word it the same. Like looking at the same street from different angles. I compare FFXI vs WoW because they are two games most can relate too, what most know about, and are on completely two different sides of the fence. Things like Guild Wars 2 which i know about(know little of others you listed) is touching on the grey area(or fence) which is my main point for what FFXIV should do.
