Old FFXI minds vs New Generation ideas

This is what im seeing on the english side of the forums since I created my account today. Now i know there will never be complete unity but this is a major battle that probably won't be won until alot more patches arrive. Me im stuck in the middle i don't know about everyone else. I am a ffxi veteran with 7 years under my belt BUT i have played other MMOs also so i don't completely agree with making this FFXI-2 as some statements lean towards. I don't however want this to be like WoW and be easy mode. I also played WoW for 2 years(even the latest cata xpac). Still not a fan of the game but always felt FFXIV should meet somewhere in the middle. It should give plenty of OPTIONS to level BUT give the best way and most rewarding to those that seek parties. This way those that don't have much time can still progress. This i believe is one of the major factors that allowed WoW to prosper so much(just way too easy for my tastes).

There are too many people that played ONLY FFXI or ONLY WoW in their MMORPG career. I might be a little extreme in saying this, but I doubt any of them can really have a balanced idea on what a modern MMORPG needs to succeed and be really enjoyable.

Luckily Yoshida's favourite MMORPG is DAOC... that alone gives me quite a bit of hope for the future.

Heres hoping Yoshi-P pulls through for an exciting, breath taking, epic experience!

One of his first interviews in Japanese. I think it was on Game-watch? Or on 4Gamer.net

He stated that he has some experience on Everquest adn WoW, but his favourite was DAOC, on which he spent 6 years.

I was actually pretty much surprised by the fact that he mentioned, to a Japanese audience, a western MMORPG as his favourite.

That's awesome. Makes me wonder if they'll try to implement some kind of RvR-style PvP into the game.

    I wonder. I doubt it's a priority though.

I for one have played a few different MMOs -

    FFXI (played since 04)
Requiem (liked it because it had a scary feeling to it)
Wow - (short time twice, didn't care for it)
    Perfect World (Hated it)
Diablo 1/2 (Remember playing these games at night??? Scary!)
    Others

I for one am in favor of FFXI 2. It was challenging, had fun questing and great scenery! Do i want an exact copy of FFXI with better graphics? Definitely not however using that game as a template and improving on everything, the battle, graphics (which they have done) ETC would seem like the way to go. Getting to rank 50 is too quick and easy not to mention you can do it all in one region O.O, leves for leveling up are boring, I like camping myself, HP and MP regen way to quick (i'm fine with going back to kneeling), I don't need/want a big red splotch telling me something will aggro and I HATE the red mob ONLY concept, Dont want to see a camp around every corner, What ever happened the thrill of running across an entire region of dangerous mobs!?
Anima is lame, Sacrafice is an over powered version of CURE, I guess I could keep going on and on . Common guys, make the game challenging! Some things I do like however: customization of the points, customization of skills, job specific questing, Behest is fun.

    Suggestions:

1.Put in mini games: FF7 type of Chocobo racing, A Casino is an interesting idea, ETC
2.Add in more comon cities, I don't mean jeuno ever 5 miles but maybe a small town with some people and quests and an item store or something (this might be what the towns on the outskirts will end up being).
    3. add something SCARY in, like an entire Cave of Ghost, zombies, goblins, things that pop out of nowhere, whatever (Gusgen mine was kind of creepy but not quite enough)!!, but of course not the entire game.
4.in addition to changing the current jobs back to traditional jobs maybe create one or two new ones
As I come up with stuff I guess ill post it but one more note, EVERY SQUARE INCH OF EVERY MAP LOOKS THE SAME. all new areas please put in some character, maybe only one camp if one at all.... and not a village at every corner. I don't expect my suggestions to fix the game, just some thoughts I had . OH and I like the Cat House in Uldah .

    Thanks!

*Update* The quest finder icon thing is ok, kinda lame but ok, knocks exploring the game down a notch but if people have a problem find quests fine. I say leave the Red splotch ICON for aggro mobs in NewB areas and take them out in all higher rank areas, I just dont want my hand held for the rest of my life, sorry :/

I love that his favourite game is that! I almost forgot...

I wish I could see his love for that game reflected in FFXIV... all I've seen from the latest update is a shift in an opposite direction to what DaoC stood for. With the aggro-indicator, lack of character collision, etc., the game is becoming increasingly safe and bland.
