    What's the point of crafting?

What's the benefit of it? In WoW you got bonuses that made maxing crafting as a raider a must, and there were also some raid-equivalent best-in-slot items that could only be obtained by crafting...

But in this, it seems like the only reason to craft is to make stuff for your house and play the auction house by selling things to other crafters? Am I missing something?

    well. crafting has it's uses.

cooking and alchemy has the best personal uses. for food and potions. you can paralyze and/or poison enemies with potions.

cooking can make quite a good profit. but it takes a little more effort.

i am not sure about alchemy.

but all the other crafts have their own unique uses. you can make some crafting gear that people will buy. and you can also make weapons that people will buy. the weapons used during the quest, "A Relic Reborn" are good-sellers.

and well some people who don't like run to many dungeons may find crafting more interesting.

other then that... it has already been stated somewhere, by SE or Naoki Yoshida, that the performance of end-game crafted gear will not exceed the end-game gear gained from dungeons or other special currencies. though i am not knowledgeable about the performance of crafted gear.

but if you wanted to get a better look at what you are dealing with when melding Materia. you can look here. that is for combat purposes. some information for crafting purposes here. for gathering purposes... you'll have to do some digging. not sure where to find it.

P.S. my name is changed too. i thought i was going crazy or something. lols. must be Naoki Yoshida day or something. his birthday?

So crafting is really just for people who want end-game content but don't want like raiding basically? Like, if I prefer doing dungeouns, then crafting will not get me any kind of benefit (outside of cooking), right?

hm. well pretty much. as far as Mythology and Allagan gear goes. crafted items can be of equal, maybe better, performance. i am not sure how crafted gear compares with the new High Allagan and Soldierly gear. as i don't get in to crafting much. and don't know anything about the new stuff from 2.2. however if you are going for a very specific build... you MAY find a piece of crafted that will suit your needs. explore all options.

you can still make useful items though. like the weapons for A Relic Reborn. people buy those often.

but yeah other then that... the best personal use is cooking. most people will expect you to have food at end-game raids like Coil.

and while potions have a long cooldown. they can still be useful. though you can get by just fine without them.

    crafting? It serves three purposes:

1: Quality gear for 'lowbie' classes so they aren't nearly as dependent on dungeon drops as they level up at a breakneck pace.
2: Establish a 'baseline' gear level for endgame content (i55 intro gear, i70 for those with deep pockets, i90 if you're too rich to care anymore)
    3: Wasting time and gil.

Attitude is half the game. If you can't get over yourself, you're not at the top.
