I think the problem with the Atma drops is that it caters to people with a lot of time on their hands.

For instance, a person who works for 8-9 hours a day, has a 30minute + commute, cooks dinner, watches a show or movie, hangs out with wife/girlfriend/kids, and then plays for maybe 1-2 hours a night (this is not my life by the way) has to hope that they get the luck that some people have and can at least get one during that time period (over the course of a day or two). This would be the only way for them to be able to get the first half of the Atma quest done in about a month to two months or so... which is kinda sucky. As a reference, I've been running the Atma quest now for about three days and have invested somewhere around 8 hours and have still yet to see a single drop.

Also it kinda sucks if you are one of those people and you have to spend your day off mindlessly grinding low level FATEs in order to get a chance at an item that will help you keep up with the rest of your FC.

I dunno. I have to agree with OP in that it seems like the first half of this quest is a little out of place in FFXIV 2.0. The second part of the quest sounds pretty much on the level (farm some dungeons, have a higher % chance of getting the items that you need, expect a turn around time of 1-2 weeks if you're taking it at a gradual pace).

I think it caters more to people who are leveling, or in other words, people who *aren't* farming the Atma.

Of course, I can only speak for my server. Before 2.2, the amount of people doing FATEs in certain areas was abysmal. If you wanted to, say, attempt "Lazy for You" for the EXP/Achievement, good luck.

That said, the way the Atmas were handled was poor. They could've made it a set number of FATEs per zone need to be completed, and people still would've complained, but at least you'd have some sensation of progress.
