A thought about Races.

I just made a post in this thread and it brought to my memory a thought I had about the races of FFXIV...

Who else was or still is disappointed?
Who else would have liked to have seen new races that were different from the last FF MMO?
What race were you hoping to see?
What character style were you hoping or would like to see if it were at all possible to change the races... lol I know, probly not possible.

Just had to get this out after remembering how I felt when I heard about the races made available.

As long as the lore continues on a different path, I am ok with the races.

I believe they said they made the races as they are to make FFXI players feel at home in Eorzea.

I think the races are ok, but aside from appearance they have almost no differences. I would like to have seen Ronso. Hopefully we will see different races implemented in the future, but if nothing else there is at least male miqote.

Honestly? I was disappointed with the copied races. I knew humans and elves were going to be standards, but they copied Tarus, Mithras, and Galkas too.

I don't know what other races they could have used though. Maybe viera from FF12? The horned kids, whose names escape me, from the Gridania storyline?

Edit: I like that they gave us two sub-races though, and a good amount of variety in character creation.

Well at first I thought that it was really cheap of them to recycle the FFXI races slightly modified (bigger Tarus and Tailless Galkas). But then I got used to the idea and don't mind much anymore. I wish they could have been more creative and come up with different races but it's fine as it is still.

I hope they keep their word and add the missing genders though, that would be the very least innovation they could do.

I can see SE saying that... it just seems silly to me. I wonder if it had the desired effect on the XI players.

Well I guess the races did make me feel at home, shame about the rest of the game though as that couldn't be any further from FFXI if it tried

Interesting topic to bring up.

I am half and half on the races in this game.

When I first heard about them, I thought "Ok, well I can roll a cat girl since I was a Hume in FFXI and I have the chance to change.". As said in posts above, some people may want the familiarity of their characters to cross over. I didn't in this case, I wanted to look at something different if I'm spending my whole Final Fantasy Online career on one character again.

The counter argument. This is supposed to be a separate online game, why reuse the race material? SE can sugarcoat it and say they're "different races" because of a name change, but everyone can see past that and know it's just FFXI races used all over again. The Ivalice world is a good example of looking into different races, you could even look at Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (Lilties and Yukes) or FFIX (Zidane was a Genome, Garnet and Eiko are summoner tribe, Vivi is a created spawn of the Mist, Quina a Qu, Freya a humanoid rat, Amarant not quite sure, and Steiner was the only full time party member that was as human as it gets. Add in multiple other races present within the game too.). Look at all the room there could have been for races in FFXIV and they copied the same set from their last MMORPG?

Personally, I would take new races far over the choice of rolling something different from within the same set from the other game. Again, this is a separate world, why are we reusing material that makes a very large play style affect?

from the begining when i saw the original redone i thought it was going to be ffxi redone with update graphics and such but they released something else that made me regret getting the collectors edition. hopefully when all the changes are done by september we will have a more aceptable game for more players to enjoy.
