While it is a nice idea, I don't really get the point to it. The game doesn't really need this kind of thing.

You have my apologies Vahzl, for the novella of a reply. Do feel free, everyone, to give it the ol' TL;DR if I lose your interest.
I've asked myself that same question quite a few times, now: "What exactly is the point of this request, again?" You're right - it is frivolous and in the long run it doesn't actually change much. But, then again, why not try? I'm certainly not alone in making unorthodox requests in General Discussion, and more of them than I ever thought possible are actually getting attention (Congratulations!) When it all comes down to it, I'd rather try than not try.
From the point of view of a player - I really do think the game lacks a bit of soul, I really do think the landscape looks a little bland, and as irrational and pointless as it is, my heart really doesn't want to let go of the possibility that someday I'll see something along the lines of what I saw when I was told to be excited that "Project Rapture" was coming.
From another point-of-view, that of a person more than a player, I think Team Yoshi-P's work is under appreciated. It has to suck at least a little knowing that, for now, the most you can expect for your monumentally hard work is that you might get people to admit you "fixed" something and it's now "acceptable." It's not much, but celebrating a little something that's not just "fixed" or "acceptable" for once sounds nice to me - something we can look back on fondly even when we're finally playing a game that has something more than just "undelivered potential."
If the idea gets passed by or outright shot down, that's okay - but I'm going to try. If it leads to something fun and aesthetic that has a good story behind it, I think it's worth supporting. Much to my relief, it's been met with a warm enough welcome (Thank you.) that I don't think it was a total selfish waste of time to bring it up.
I guess the point is that we play MMOs to make memories and connections while we achieve goals and overcome challenges that could have otherwise been met a lot faster in a single player game - and since this idea furthers that, even if only a little bit, it's at least worth throwing out there.
It certainly sounded more constructive than dragging down the mood with, "Why does the finished product have less style than a pre-production tech demo?" at any rate.

I like it, never seen that picture honestly.. but I really like the idea, what a cool place. Meet up for a few brews after a long day of adventuring... not bad.
This is an idea I can stand behind. Great idea.
F*** yeah, green apples!
It took me a few carefully worded Google searches, but you're correct, indeed! A lone artist was given permission to run the images and it got a lot more attention than expected.
Good thing I wasn't rallying for the institution of the lost bunny girls that should have been...

(While I'm here, there may not be a direct way to reply to people simply throwing out that they like the idea, but that doesn't mean I'm not appreciative. Thank you very much to everyone who took the time to type out a little something.)

Sorry, I'm confused. What exactly are you asking for? A little plaque that says Congratulations to the SE dev team of 2011 for turning FFXIV around, and you want it in a pretty highly detailed place?

I want things the game needs; a mail system, a larger trade window, a challenge worth relishing the win, etc. This is just a whimsical idea that I thought might be nice: I had the thought, I liked the idea, I shared it.
I know that there are players who aren't that interested in the emotional investment of the game, the memories made there, or the meaning behind any of the game world's contents - and I know that they'll be quick to say this is a waste of time - but when I left FFXI, that's what stayed with me.
It'd be nice to see a little break from always just referring to things as a binary of "Broken" or "Fixed," and just enjoy something for what it is. In an MMO, was there ever a place that it didn't benefit you at all to visit, but you did because you liked being there? Have you ever been disappointed by a final product lacking everything from the preview that made you excited for in the first place? If you had an idea that could give you a more favorable result for each scenario while forming a better connection to the game and raising a little morale, why not at least say it outloud?
I doubt you're trying to rain on the idea by simplifying it so much - but if all I wanted was to put a "Good Job" sticker on Yoshida-san's shirt, I could always just mail him one.

I'm all for this. There were some pretty amazing places in 11 that were out of the way.
And yes, there were many a place I'd go just to go, for no other reason than the emotional attachment/ooo look at the pretties. (Read: anywhere in Zi'Tah, omg that zone.)
I think we should get a neat looking place to hang out that gives us a breath taking look of the mountain ranges. Maybe some dragons from Dravania way off in the distance. Maybe a beautiful trail through the tops of the mountains sorrounding ishgard.
