Melee mage probably = Red Mage. There's enough demand for it, lol. I hope they go with a more traditional RDM though than the cheesiness that was the FFXI RDM.I'm mostly just waiting for the new classes to be released now since current Classes/Jobs don't interests me enough to put effort into getting their best Relic weapon.
As of now it still undetermined when a new class will be released until some official announcement is made but at least we finally have the general combat style (being combat stance and some skills) and Lore for the Scout class Yoshi-P discussed months ago.
I'm still waiting on some teasers about that Melee Mage Yoshi-P mentioned when he discussed Musketeer and Scout.
For now if they follow their current tradition of keeping the Big Names for Jobs then Scout will certainly go into Thief and/or Ninja.

based on Final Fantasy XI, Melee Mage could refer to either Red Mage, Geomancer, Blue Mage, or even arguably Dancer (though in terms of Final Fantasy XI, the Dancer was more of a TP Mage than a traditional Mage, which has no equivalent in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn seeing as how all melee classes use TP in the same way that XI's Dancer did). But I could see a Blue Mage or Geomancer being the Melee Mage Yoshi-P talked about just as easily as I can the Red Mage, though the Red Mage does appear to have more demand.
Well if they follow the whole class before Job system we may see the Class being a Fencer Class then at lvl 30 players can become Red Mage and/or Mystic Knight
Mystic Knight is another Fencer class like Red Mage but it follows a more Tank role path in FF history while Red Mage follow the jack of all trades but master of none DPS role more.
However, Yoshi-P did mention Blue Mage when he mentioned Red Mage.
