Don't grind atmas if you don't like it. Atmas are for people who like grinding. Progressing your relic quest IS NOT NECESSARY! There are other ways to get weapons and other content to do.
Thank you SE for giving us grinding. I like it.
Yeah, me too. It's like, I have no current plans to bother with the grindy content, but since Square had the courtesy to not make them optimal equipment (forcing me to eventually want to obtain one), it's just another thing I can put on the backlog of things to do once ive done everything else.
I really don't care for grinding content at all, but Square implemented it in a way where I literally don't have to ever even bother with it. So I dont know why people feel like they're chained to this quest that is completely optional.

It's easy to understand why people aren't happy if you look at how things have changed.
ARR relic quest wasn't much of a grind. Defeat some challenges, run a few dungeons, kill a few mobs, travel a bit, and done. Now it's a FATE grind. People are disappointed that the next phase of the relics is not like the previous one.
Imagine if the next part of the relic quest required 100 PVP wins or crafting 50 HQ weapons. Or imagine that to go to the next phase of Coil, you need a full set of CT armor. Or to try out the new dungeons, you need to grind a new alt through the entire story again. People wouldn't like it because it's busy work and doesn't match their expectations based on how the previous stage worked.

Honestly SE is just doing what the people on the forums wanted. For months people complained about no open world content and that they wanted more length/time to acquire relic weapons. Now you have 3 different ways to acquire an ilvl 100+ plus weapon; Levi EX, Atma/Animus, and Coil.
Second part of the relic quest, the one with the books, is that people wanted.Honestly SE is just doing what the people on the forums wanted. People hated fate for leveling. They hated it for CT access. Why would the freacking like them NOW?

They didn't have to FATE to level... It was their own choice...
When 2.1 came along, the same people started complaining that FATE was not efficient for levelling any more...
I don't see that as an indicator of hating FATEs...
No, you aren't listening to me.
You do not. Have to do. The goddamn Atma upgrade quest.
I'm not defending it because i dont think it's terrible. I'm saying, its pointless to bitch about because it only exists for the sake of adding a grind to the game.
Its obvious. You spend hours for stat upgrades to the weapon at like +2 per turn-in. In the meantime you could just be fighting the new battles and skipping massive hourly chunks of the quest entirely.

1) the fate farming for atma is only to get the base relic atma that gradually upgrades to the relic animus... get past this rng based stage, and the rest is deterministic... atma drop rate seems to be around 4% based on that it took around 300 fates for me to get my relic atma, and I've seen others say they got theirs after around 300 fates as well, give or take a number...
2) this is essentially exactly what people on this forum begged for... they didn't think through what it would mean in practice, and now they bitch about it...
3) as others already pointed out, you can get Wave/Tidal Wave weapons that are equal to, or better, than the animus... gerolt masterworks weapon seem to require running second coil, in addition to soldiery tomes, but chances are the items from second coil can also be a rare reward from ventures (if people already get mog weapons from them, such items are not unthinkable to get...)

The stats(as in crit, det, ss, etc) on the tidal wave weapons may not be better than the Atma/Animus for some classes. Otherwise yeah, it's easier to simply clear/progress through Levi extreme instead.3) as others already pointed out, you can get Wave/Tidal Wave weapons that are equal to, or better, than the animus... gerolt masterworks weapon seem to require running second coil, in addition to soldiery tomes, but chances are the items from second coil can also be a rare reward from ventures (if people already get mog weapons from them, such items are not unthinkable to get...)
The thing is, I actually liked the relic weapon quest before 2.2. In all honesty, I enjoyed the storyline and the trials. :3 Now...not so much, but I did the Atma anyway in hopes of it becoming enjoyable again in the future.
