Yes, if it were slated for Aug/Sept there would have been an announcement for PS3 by now. It's just poppycock.
Edit: Oh and the Chinese version of the game is separate from all other versions. So getting a release date from them wouldn't mean anything.
Maybe, but I feel that it is reasonable to expect it this year. I think that the speculation problem is coming from the people who want this game to be too much at release and the long wait is gonna hurt the game just as bad as a rushed release (long time gap here so obviously the world has grown familiar with MMO properties, but look at ffxi website at release on time machine link I think Reinhart posted). I am not calling for a rushed release, just a well timed one that isn't unnecessarily far into the future. I know that everyone I know is happy with the changes that are to be made and feel that after the fixes they have in their summer list this game will be fine as a basic MMO that is ready to be expanded on. No need to lock out other players I feel. Right now other than things they have on their list I really only want them to keep adding content and fix the jumpiness many of us experience while running downhill.Personally, I think all the speculation in unnecessary. SE will not throw any dates out there for future patches and additions to the game (a few rough estimates at best), so what makes you think that they will give a release date for the PS3?? Be realistic (and reasonable), And don't expect the PS3 release this year. If it comes before then, it'll be a pleasant surprise. But there is soooo much they still NEED to do, and then there are the few things they still WANT to do...
It was said by Devs that the PS3 version will be their last chance... in other words, it has to be perfect before it comes out. Understand, if they release it prematurely it will be the end of this game.

I'm doing a copy-pasta of my post on the suggestions board because i think it's relevant here.
With all the demand for high level content, i feel that the importance of low level content is often forgotten. It certainly was in Final Fantasy XI.
I feel that a successful MMO, and most particularly one with an expanding level cap, will have a plethora of content for all levels. In terms of player retention, it is important that non grinding options are flooded into the Rank 10 range. Else many players are likely to become bored with the game while grinding to the first major swath of content at rank 20 and beyond.
The Rank 1-20 areas outside each starter city comprise 2 complete areas of map. Each are large enough to house 2 or 3 beastman tribes. These camps can look unique and require a unique set of tactics to raid while using the same set of graphics content.
There should also be an instanced 4 or 8 player party dungeon with boss(s) for each Rank 10 and Rank 15 players for each starter city. That is 3 Rank 10 dungeons and 3 Rank 15 Dungeons.
That's just a bare minimum.
I feel this is critical to include in the game before any PS3 release is considered.
Also know that many critics that will review the PS3 launch, will not play to rank 20 or 30.
It is slightly pessimistic, but true. You want players AND critics to have a strong first impression.
The bottom line:
Don't forget Rank 10 content, and furthermore, even have a beastman tribe for Rank 1-5 players. Give them somewhere exciting to go from the moment they step outside the city gates.
Retention is the life and death of any business.
This.Yeah....

Aside CE box art, the SE version really doesn't..display much.
When I see the box art of the non CE FFXIV on store shelves, I do not feel like buying it. I don't even want to touch it really. It's just BAD.
Now when I use to see FFXI box art on store shelves, I would HAVE to grab the thing and read everything on the box because it grabbed my attention.
I really hope they make the CE box art the standard box art, or add some other great pieces of artwork.
(I would even probably by another standard copy just to look at it if it had impressive artwork. And then when I eventually meet someone who wants to play, I can let them use the disc and codes.)

3 months of laggy UI, no content, horrible mob placement (the world still needs more mobs scattered around, to be honest), and many other problems make 3 months of -any game- look better by comparison.Well actually, think about the first three month we had with the game and now think about the first three months someone starting in October will have. I think it would be really fun.
Lets say PS3 Closed Beta starts in October, then released in January 2012. I think those first three months would be pretty sweet for PS3 users.
Quote from The Tourist:
Italian Detective: I heard you were reporting a murder.
Frank: Attempted murder.
Italian Detective: Well that's not so bad.
Frank: Not when you downgrade it from murder, but when you upgrade it from room service...
I love this art because it's basically "full circle". It shows the original two character from the back of the "Vanilla" version in their same post decked out in gear now instead of in starter gear. Little things like that go a long way. I too, do not care for the regular XIV box. It's just a crappy still from the opening movie. Hardly exciting compared to actual paintings.FFXI Add-Ons/Collection:
