They just put that date up until they get a real one. Don't take it seriously.
Thought about that myself, but then wouldn't they do that a lot then? For example, here is the page on Amazon for SWTOR: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Old-...9981340&sr=1-6
You can sign up to get an e-mail when a product becomes available, and one of my linkshell members said they received a notice that FFXIV will be available in October. That was posted THIS week. Why now?
Amazon.com isn't that reliable. My family seems to run into issues with them. Like late products, or they skrewed up the order. Take a release date from them with a grain of salt.
Hmm they have changed it, on Amazon it used to say December 31st 2020 so they must have changed it for a reason. I mean at this point it would seem crazy to launch then but maybe they are much further along than we know about.
Content wise they could have a huge amount ready but are holding off until the core mechanics are done ie. Battle system. It has always seemed like content was pulled out of the game very crudely before launch I wonder if they feel like they are ready with the core fixes to put it all back in.
I know a lot of people think SE are stupid and that they launched with no content because they hadn't made any but I really don't think that was the case. I think it was more likely they knew they needed to make changes to the core mechanics of the game and made a decision to pull everything they could hoping that we had enough to keep us going for 3-6 months while they got the fixes in place then just readjust the content for the new systems and gear up for the PS3 launch.
Unfortunately it has taken them longer to make the fixes but we are nearing that point now, maybe they are getting ready to unlock all the readjusted content with the new systems in place. Sounds crazy I know but you never know, it's either that or SE really doesn't know whatthey are doing and have been bumbling their way through development all this time.
If PS3 release is near then expect news on it's beta shortly after 1.18 I guess.

Thanks for that confirmation on the date change! That was why I found it odd myself. Another reason I find it odd is that we have a list full of stuff that is supposed to be done "By the end of summer", which, as Yoshi puts it, is at the end of September.Hmm they have changed it, on Amazon it used to say December 31st 2020 so they must have changed it for a reason. Could it be that SE is planning the PS3 right after the majority of the fixes are slated to be done?
Is it possible that we could see this actually launch in October? Could we get a huge expansion of content they way they did it for FFXI?
It's neither really (XI kind of proves they know what to do, especially given trying to make XIV as accessible as possible) -- a lot of this stuff being done now is done in development, not so much post launch, so a lot of people are now dealing with stuff that tend to be done pre-beta (since you never really alpha test MMOs either) and stuff done during beta at launch. Given another 3 years XIV would have no doubt been far superior to XI in every way but content base.
Oh I agree and I am not necessarily trying to get the community's hopes up, it is just odd timing.
Amazon.ca has the release date set for October 31, so it's an estimated date at this point. I'd like to say that I had Fable III pre ordered on the PC last year and the date was set for November 2010 for a long time, then February 2011 and it finally came out in May 2011.
That is interesting that a subsidiary Amazon site has a different date.Amazon.ca has the release date set for October 31, so it's an estimated date at this point. And I am not trying to pass this off as a definitive date, but what caused them to change it from Dec 2020, to Oct 2011? Just random chance?
