Not exactly the same thing trust me on this one but they did just give you fate open world grinding for Atma's. (lol)Agreed. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy XIV, but something that frustrates me to no end is that the entire endgame is literally instances. Instances. Instances.
By next patch I hope to see some legitimate open-world endgame. It would make me feel so much better about this game. (If I'm stepping on anyone's toes by asking for this, you can friggin shove off, your selfishness sickens me.)
Def not bitter. Like both games for what they provide. You can't play the new one without remembering the old one tho.
Back in my day (2003) we still said "Back in my day" and related it to something like EverQuest or Phantasy Star Online.
I agree with the "old and grumpy" part though... so so old. ;_;
Back in my day we lost 10% of our EXP till next level just for being KOed and we were happy to have it! ::cough wheeze:: Where's my medicine?
I'm not quite sure what's with the cancerous attitude of some people that are playing FFXIV right now that hate on FFXI players for reasons they have fabricated in their heads, but it's pathetic and should stop. XIV will take from XI lots, whether you like it or not, it's made by the same company and is the spiritual successor (Note a lot of things from XIV are HD versions of XI content).
I enjoyed XI and miss it and many of it's features, but not enough to go back to it, which means I much prefer XIV these days. There was way more to do in XI, but I didnt even join until WoG, and outside of Japan nobody else played it until the first expansion was out, giving it plenty of time to build up content. I have faith that over time more and more features will be added to XIV, especially since they've been pretty good about adding what players asked for compared to XI.
XI was great at the time. I loved the challenge and the accomplishment, I loved having a team to do things with, I loved exploring and all that. At least looking back on it I do. In reality, that game was frustrating and I just didn't realise it. I remember doing dynamis and the anxiety when other groups showed up at the same time and we'd have to rush to prepare. I remember spending hours doing that event every week with the same group who I realised I didn't really like most of the people in it.
I remember doing exp parties, killing the same mobs in the same spot for hours on end, being happy to get 150+xp per mob, but having to wait hours to get an invite, then having a horrible time trying to get out to the camp and possibly dying along the way (and losing exp), and then having another group come and camp on top of us. Sometimes we'd die so many times, or go so slow, that I'd lose as much exp as I made.
I remember the community spirit. Everyone knew each other, that was great. But oh, that drama! So much drama. So many guys pretending to be women and then people freaking out when they found out their 'girlfriend'/cyber buddy was actually a man. The way if you played anything that wasn't flavour of the month, you'd never get anywhere. Imagine how difficult it was when my main jobs went smn then dnc. While I ended up doing quite a bit and being useful in dyna, the only reason I even got into a ls for that was that my boyfriend was the main tank for it.
Things that I do really miss though, that I have no bad memories of, was mainly the creativity. You had different ways to build your character, and you could fill different roles. I really miss dnc for that reason, I could be healer, dd, tank, puller, whatever on that. Gear swapping was a pain in the butt, especially when your inventory was full of gear for just one job, but it always gave you something to strive for. That next upgrade, that next piece of gear for x set.
Also chocobo breeding.
If XI had an overhaul to it, I would happily go back. Graphics remake, interface, combat pace. Those are about the only things that are too dated for my liking.
Combat "is" horrendously slow, and resting for twice as long is rather bad. XI could benefit from updating certain parts of it. The "core" of the game is still great imo anyways. Still love it's layout, design (aside from Abyssea), soundtrack, atmosphere. I would sooner hop in XI v2 2014 Overhaul Edition over ARR.
In short, if XI ever got the graphics fidelity and combat "pace" of ARR, I'd return for years once again. The archaic parts of XI are not the overarching gameplay elements, but the fundamental gameplay elements.
I miss how involved I was with the community, whether it be laughing at a party wiping from a ghoul at night, or PLing Some random people for fun. I miss oldschool exp parties, yeah I said it. I love when people cry saying "shouting for a party for 4 hours was fun" (sarcasm). In response I say to you in glad you waited miserably because you didn\\\\\\\\'t have the knowledge to form your own party. You were lazy and just wanted it to fall in your lap. Everyone these days wants the easy way, thank WoW for that. I don\\\\\\\\'t think leveling up should be so easy, I miss the deleveling. Kept the noobs at a low level. That whole delevel function made you a more skillful player in the sense that you would learn your job better. Not all this button mashing crap. Man I miss it, you call it nostalgia yet how is it that I played it for 6 years and I play ffxiv for a month? Haters will hate but ffxi was for hardcore players only, the patient, the skilled.
Bobbinthrdbare of Bahamut here.
I do miss alot of contents there and further along. But as of now, I do realize that it is kind of almost impossible to play 2 MMO at once. Just recently subbed for another month to get the new Trust NPC: Lehko from WotG and finally getting that Cait Sith summon which has been taking years to develop. But aside that, I really don't have the power to multitask MMO, which is really sad, especially with contents in XIV keeps growing.
