I miss having a Mythic T.T
I miss having a Mythic T.T
I agree with how the world felt more alive since there was very little instances and you weren't teleporting every couple minutes to anywhere in the world. That is probably the biggest issue for me, everything else in FFXI was great back then but I don't think I could do it all over again.
I miss a lot from XI @.@ dynamis, sea, sky, hnm, the list could go on all the way to the most simple things graphic wise, like the size and look of summoners avatars (because let face it - the summons in XIV just aren't as cool looking as they were in XI).
"Everyone has something they hold dear, something they never want to lose. That's why they pretend. That's why they hide the truth. And that's why they lie."
I stopped reading at this post. I still don't know how I put in the time I did, worked and partied hard at same time, I was a beast.
Now I'm living the real No country for old men
That's why FFXIV so good for me, I ain't got THAT time.
On subject though the most I miss was the friends I had, we would fight till it's over. I don't know where these people come from that quit so quick that claim they came from FF11.

Played XI for years and I miss the world most of all. Was on carby and then Odin for awhile. The world really made it feel like you were a part of it and the music was amazing. Something that I felt from XI that I haven't felt in another mmo is feeling like you were an adventurer helping other adventurers. Call me crazy but the class and party system were awesome and I would love an updated more modern version of it. Abby killed the world.
The only 2 things I did not like about FFXI was the deleveling and mandatory party to level. I can tell you this tho: I have yet to play a game that made me feel as immersed as FFXI did. (FFXIV is getting there).
I have a running subscription to XI on the Asura server (although I rarely play these days).
If I had to choose what I liked about it back in the day (2002[late]-2008), I would have to say the awesome community and general comradery between players.
The sheer difficulty of the game back then literally forced players to make bonds with each other and make connections that were not easily broken. Even "JP Only" and overly excessive "requirements" for partying/raiding were the few or rarely seen negatives within the game. It's only very recently that it's become the norm in FFXI to be required to have a certain set/gear level for raiding, and that only started happening when the game edged closer to "solo play".
As for the Japanese, that whole "JP Only" is complete, and utter bull! I have partied with many Japanese people in the past, and even though I had to communicate with the auto-translator, we all got along really well. I even caught them off guard once while I was studying Japanese years later when I realized they were making fun of how "The THF (me) is pulling the beetles wrong. wwww" and responded with the auto-translator ((wrong way.)) ((pull back)) ((Understood.)). From there it was all fun, games and many "w w w w w"s.
What do I like most about FFXI today? The Trust System! Because with how many people have abandoned FFXI lately (and with how easy Abyssea made leveling from 30-99...), it is impossible to find players, let alone a "group" of players willing to level up with you (so much for level-sync). So Trust fills a void where your party members would normally have been (I find myself talking to the Trust NPCs because I'm lonely while leveling... they never talk back though -_-).
What do I hate most about FFXI today? The Trust System! Because it requires that you have no-one else in your party to summon even ONE NPC! When I want to party with that one lone player around my level in the zone, but doing so would mean we'd both have to rest for 5 minutes in between fights (They still haven't upgraded this since 2008!), I don't really feel like partying... Doing so would require I play the game 50% of the time instead of 100% of the time and enjoying it with an actual human being by my side. =(
So yeah, Trust is both a blessing and a curse, but only because of the restrictions they placed upon it and due to the fact that you are still required to rest between fights to heal your HP. =(

But that taught people not to be stupid and half ass their way through stuff because there was a consequence and the partying forced people to be social and helped build the community. That's why XIV and most every mmo lacks a decent one, because everyone can solo the entire game :/
I agree with what you are saying to a certain extent. It's true that it totally rewards you for teamwork, and punishes you for being stupid, which I like. problem is that you serious CANNOT do anything by yourself unless you were a beastmaster. On certain days I would wait 3+ hours idleing in a zone just to get into a group, only to lose the exp i made the night before. I wouldn't mind if I could have killed simple mobs while waiting, but you could not even do that once you reach a certain level. I dont know if it changed when i stopped in 2004, so my rant may be obsolete. But that taught people not to be stupid and half ass their way through stuff because there was a consequence and the partying forced people to be social and helped build the community.
