But that taught people not to be stupid and half ass their way through stuff because there was a consequence and the partying forced people to be social and helped build the community. That's why XIV and most every mmo lacks a decent one, because everyone can solo the entire game :/

I agree with what you are saying to a certain extent. It's true that it totally rewards you for teamwork, and punishes you for being stupid, which I like. problem is that you serious CANNOT do anything by yourself unless you were a beastmaster. On certain days I would wait 3+ hours idleing in a zone just to get into a group, only to lose the exp i made the night before. I wouldn't mind if I could have killed simple mobs while waiting, but you could not even do that once you reach a certain level. I dont know if it changed when i stopped in 2004, so my rant may be obsolete.
