atma drop rates

I started hunting Atma's 3 days ago and got all 12 already, I noticed no difference between when in group or solo as to amount of time took to farm each one. Some locations I got them quicker than others but I am pretty sure it is just random. I think took me about 300-400 fates to get all 12.

If anything, the areas I ended up haunting mostly by myself were some of the most stubborn (conversely, I would occasionally get an atma on the first or second FATE in an area while going solo).

I found that it didn't matter. No reason to party up or not party up, depends on you. I only partied up a couple of times, and I had no better or worse luck in a party. I felt bad, because I would pop into an area where people had been farming. Party chat was abuzz with people who had been doing this for hours and no drop, then I got a drop in 5 or 6 fates. Then I left. I shouldn't have felt bad, but I did. With 3 Atma weapons, one for each class of character, I am going to start focusing on ST and the extreme trials to get more gear and such. I've been doing the WHM atma book, and that can be a pain in the butt too. Go over here and kill 10 of this character. Oh, there's only 2 of them in the whole area and you have to wait for them to re spawn? Do these fates (more fates?!?!) but don't use that extra Zenith weapon in your arsenal to get credit, you have to use the Atma weapon.

Something I haven't tried: I wonder if I can use a different character with an Atma weapon to get credit. For example, I'm working on the Atma for my WHM and I kill something with my Bard Atma weapon. Will I get credit in the book? I don't think so. Yet they won't let me carry a book for my Bard, White Mage and Warrior at the same time.

I think fate grinding is fun and it's nice to know SE holds onto low-RNG tradition from XI.

Yes I do have 1 Novus, and 1 Atma weapon per Job. And yes, I also have 12 atmas set aside for when Ninja launches. In any case, anyone else have this same lifeless accolade? Or striving for it perhaps?

I agree 100% that the Atma drop rates should be higher: I unlocked the Atma drops in July, and as of this post, only have 5 Atma stones (i.e. one every 1.5 weeks on average). In the same time, merely by doing hunts, Syrcus Tower & Expert/Hard Duty Roulette, I was able to get the fully-upgraded Laevateinn in under 3 weeks, and am well on my way to getting my second Sands of Time.

Personally the sheer radomness of the Atma grinding is just plain frustrating, boring & no fun at all (and that's not even getting into the Animus Books or the Novus Alexandrite map grinding). As a result, I think I'll only likely bother with the whole grind for my Black Mage weapon, and just go the Soldiery weapon route for all the other classes I run (mainly because I can get the fully upgraded soldiery weapons every 3 weeks).

Oh, and B. Strife: I third the motion of you buying a lottery ticket with your luck. Just don't use "4 8 15 16 23 42" as your numbers, otherwise bad stuff might happen.

Atma has been such a cruel mistress to some, no reason to be be bitter to the others who it hasn't. Won't make Square change it

I also am insane, but only have four sets so far... Working on set five though!
