Needless to say this seemed to have worked for me (and other friends who now do the same). Now it has it's ups and downs and yes it costs gill to warp every 30 mins, but then again I can now say that I have collected all my atma and I'm now on my 7th set and the atma grind is not that bad.

I would like to know if others have tried different tactics and what results they have had with them.

FYI, I don't follow any zone rotation, I just pick a zone kill fates for 30 mins or less and move on, and I only spend no more than 4/5hrs a day (if that) on atma farming.

I feel sad for those who are still working on their first set, but surely there is a way to improve anyones and everyones chances... maybe I can pass a little luck on

That's just confirmation bias. There's no "method" to obtain Atma better. It's a flat chance.

I tried these methods thus far:
    1) Farmed atma in North Shroud for about 15 hours over a week and a half before atma dropped.
    2) Decided to switch zones every hour and after a total of 10 hours over 3 days got second atma.
    3) Changed it up and followed the Japanese theory switching zones every hour according to the theory and after 8 hours on one long Saturday I got my third.
    4) That was two weeks ago, and countless hours later I have not received my fourth atma.
At this point I decided I'm done with this game. I loved how this game was and I had high hopes. If atma is any indication of the direction this game is going than I cannot abide paying for such a time trap. So long SE. Off to ESO. I'm hoping they don't have the same kind of crap going on.

I too will be unsubing if this Atma grind is not changed, I've simply started running out of things to do and this is a RNG timesink worse then my desire to obtain all the EX mounts, I almost have every single minon, everything I have is 50 with a zenith or better,(6/9 leviathan? weapons not counting shields,) literally almost every single drop from T1-5. missing 3 pieces from T4, and healer pants, Tank helm, ( I believe I'm also 6/9 on allagan weapons.) I have every single craft at 50...which prior to the mastery books could make 2 star anything. I beta Tested the original 1.0 and I want this game to succeed so so badly.

(The only reason I haven't gotten obsessed with T6-9 is all the decent statics have already formed on my server.)

and it's not like I'm even doing that bad on the atma farm 5/12 with 3 spare atma of the crab, just going towards that 6th atma it's been atleast 40+ hours of seeing nothing now add in an additional 15min or so of atma grinding.

I'd played FFXI for many many years, and while this is bringing the grind back to relic weapons, the relic weapons in the game don't feel the same level of reward for the effort,

so hopefully something at E3 reveals something of interest otherwise I'm just done :/

May as well unsub now because Square already said they have no immediate plans to boost Atma drop rates.

I too played FFXI for a long time. Battling the gods for 2 hours with my entire linkshell was pretty epic, and competing with other linkshells for HNMs like Behemoth or Nidhogg was fun as well. But the gear was also epic. SAM AF2 was awesome and well worth the time. Artemis Atma/Animus/Novus, not so much.

    response to player

the thing is i love how when the atam thing started se said they would listen to the players more and that they'll make games fun... lies all lies what since march they didn't do anything and the soonest we can hope they will change the way atamas are dropped is after 2.3 patch so ya grind'ohoy ppl, and if ppl say "no its ok", i bet a sheep's uncle and a fat pig that they already have their atama weapon, well guess what? good for you. ppl are playing money to have fun in a final fantasy world .. and grinding like its a f2p mmo is not fun, and before you say you think this is hard , i don't, i think its not fun, i think is mind boggling boring and ridculously time consuming. to say so you want everthing handed to you, no i want a final fantasy adventure to get my atama weapon thats what i want , if you say well ff11 was long and hard well we're not in ff11 first off ff11 was a menu based game, slow paced compared to ff14

, i played a while and left it becuase of it's pace. you say , you don't have to get it? the atma grind is for ppl that can't find groups to run raid what do you think it was made for? a raid group? no a casual player to get a high lvl weapon , guess what you have to get it to be on par with the raiders to at least try and raid with them unless you be ostrised by the raiding party and before you say oh well get into an fc, now thats where you don't ahve to get a fc. this is my view on this atama fiasco what SE did , they were doing so well too. you wanted to stop ppl from progressing then lengthen the time between patches , cuz thats what it really is about SE couldn't keep up and had to slow down the hungry grubbing content eaters.

GOOD DAY YOU MUNCHKINS GO HAVE SOME PIE, AND HAIL MOFO'IN HYDRA!!!

    ps. screw my spelling errors

A better idea would've been to make the ATMA drop at the end of the leveling dungeons. That would've made the grind less boring and all the level 50s would actually be helping the lower level players progress. Instead of having gear/weapons drop at the boss, if you have your Relic Zenith equipped you have a chance at the ATMA drop. If they were going to recycle content those lower level dungeons would've been better than FATEs. I know theres low level roulette. But I think we are all tired of getting Haukke Manor on roulette. Or am I the only that happens to?
