At least with the books there actually -IS- progress since the start and end are clearly defined. Nobody has a problem with that part of the quest.
yea i dont mind doing fates i hate playing a slot machine acting like its a video game though, and everything above i90 except for weathered soldiery is just a stupid slot machine.
as someone who took part in all of these, I find your accusations and put downs of them to be rather disturbing. all of those are/were about group efforts including AbysseaI can tell you horror stories from 3 of those systems in XI that would send you running away from ANY thoughts of implementing any of them.
HNM: You must have a bot program itching to be used to be hyping up an HNM system. That approach in XI was a disaster from day one and the only ones who endorse it are the ones who had the best bots to claim them.
ZNM: No way in any of the seven hells do I want this train wreck anywhere NEAR Eorzea. Between expensive equipment (gil sink), insufficient rewards for the pictures (time sink), and the ridiculous drop rates (RNG hell), don't even bring this up and expect serious consideration.
VWNM: Seriously?
Abyssea: This is about the only sane point you've made. The NM tree wasn't ridiculously difficult and the drop rates were reasonable.
if you have horror stories about these, chances are you did them horribly wrong.
HNMs were always about group efforts, if your group was good they usually weren't an issue. no botting was needed for good groups
ZNMs again about group efforts
VWNMs with the right group were really fun and could get pretty silly
Abyssea was actually the only real train wreck in XI, it made players so much lazier it wasnt even funny, it should have had a lvl cap minimum of atleast 65 but more likely 70 but that is another argument
most of your argument denotes laziness or unwillingness to work with others. which is bad in any good MMO

Well the Books do send you back to FATEs but they will tell you what 3 FATES you will need to complete to progress in the Book so people will need to act fast before someone completes the FATE before they reach the FATE.

The books are a lot like when you first grinded for Darklight (ARR), you're always working toward a goal you know you'll achieve. Even if it's arbitrary tasks like killing x amount of mobs or completing some dungeon you've cleared a million times over, it's at least Do A Thing = Get A Thing. It could be better, it could actually give some sort of semi-"difficult" challenge (Clear T5, Clear EX Primals, etc.), but either way it's a huge step in the right direction compared to the Atma quest.
I hate fates and this looks boring to me so I won't do it.
It doesn't make me want to quit the game or have a cry on the forums about it like some people, the entitlement complex of these pple is so annoying.
I think there is a difference between expressing dissatisfaction with a quest design and saying that it "should" be something that you can easily obtain because you "deserve" it. I don't think "entitlement" is the same thing as player dissatisfaction.
and a majority of the complaints is hwo there is no earnable variant. You need rng twice to get levi weapon done. You need rng and a weekly lockout to get heavy allagan. You need rng twice and weekly lockout twice to upgrade weathered soldiery. You need rng and weekly lockout for tutn 7 weapons. There is nother higher than ex weapons or zenith that u just earn by putting in the effort. It's called 'sweat of your brow' not a hand-out. It isn't a handout to get paid for doing your job, and noone would work for a company that only paid u if u were lucky.
Some of the first posts on this thread where complaining how this has ruined everything and they're going to quit the game. That is the kind of thing I'm talking about.
