I think they've made useless things useful and useful things useless.

^^ This person speaks sense!!This. The community destroys every MMO. Everyone keeps complaining like a little 3 y.o. and then Blizzard/SE/all the other companies "fix" it for those that complained the most. Of course that dissatisfies another group, which then complains until it's "fixed" again. Rinse and repeat.
Guys, this is an MMO. If you want everything go cheat in a single player game. Everyone should try to enjoy this. If you NEED to get every piece of equipment, well, you will have to do something you don't like in pretty much every game. Play like you enjoy it. Noones forced to grind these, noones forced to farm coil, noones forced to do anything. Everyone that's complaining here should question themselves, if FF XIV is a game or if they mistook it for their lives.
(and no, not a flame "lol, play less" - I'm currently spending a ton of time on this game, but I'm not bothering with these FATEs since I don't like it, end of the story.)
The people saying it was a bad move are stupid, they are pointing out that they can get allagan/withered weapons with barely any work lol... So erm... Why are you complaining exactly!? If you can get weapons which are same stats or even more powerful elsewhere then go do exactly that, while you're at it leave the people that enjoy working for something alone instead of trying to mess it up with your flawed logic. Fools *sigh*
Like others have mentioned the problem with this system is a measured sense of progress. Completing a fate after fate hoping that the next one isn't something that will keep the majority of the playerbase happy for long. It also keeps them from seeing and enjoying the other content in the game due to their constant struggles with this system.
Some people have said that this system is perfect and is made for the long term. Really? Can those of you that think this honestly say with a great deal of certainty that the same number of 50s will be zerging these fates 6 months from now? A year from now?
I don't want things handed to me, but like myself, I do want to see some kind of visual representation of a goal being progressed upon to validate the use of my time.
In 6 months to a year they would probably have more content/changes that will make things easier ready for next step of atma + other stuff... On that note people have been grinding CT/coil on a daily basis to max out their mythology tomestones for months to gain "end game" gear jsLike others have mentioned the problem with this system is a measured sense of progress. This is the second mmo I ever play, I played wow vanilla like 8 years ago or so. Grinding for a few hours to get something is nothing. It took me 6-8months to get my first epic piece since I got to level 60 in wow, and people are complaining already? Like three days after patch release. No one complained about stuff like that 8 years ago, everyone kept doing dungeons and dungeons til they finally got what they wanted.
I think most people here see the game as a single player game and they forget about other aspects of the game, such as the social one and they just want the best gear 3 days after the patch
This is my point. If they, SE, are of the mindset that they will need to change it 6 months from now, why not just start off with a system that will have more longevity? They could have easily divided the atmas up between fates, dungeons, and 8 man content instead of just dumping it solely in fates.
Yes true they could have. However it would usually be released like this so that hardcore players cannot max out on everything in such a short amount of time as we would see in most games. If they made it easy I can almost 100% say that there will be thread with more casual gamers complaining. The problem I see with it being in instances is simply that those more hardcore players would just spam instances instead to build tomestones and get atma.. AND someone will complain about that too lol. The thing about a gaming community is that you will always have people that are not happy regardless of what the developer does for them as its all about them not the rest of the gamers. This is my point. There is a difference between dungeons and FATEs, one is amusing, one is mind-numbingly boring. This is the second mmo I ever play, I played wow vanilla like 8 years ago or so. True. The thing is, however, that having players focus solely on obtaining these items from fates is essentially keeping them from doing any of the other content from the patch. Yes, if the atma were in dungeons people would be flocking to them. But at least then they are killing two birds with one stone. And yes, people would also be using this to max out their tomestones. But, then again, they were already going to do that anyway.Yes true they could have.
