Thankfully playing FFXI prepared me for this. This grind is like a slice of heaven compared to trying to get my Duelist's Chapeau from 2004 to 2008. I'll take this any day of the week.

Ochi Kote were pretty fun to get too... Still have yet to see them drop to this day.
you people all have some bad attitude. sure, you can have your neet circle jerk club, but dont be surprised if this game goes the way of the dodo... again.
also, grinding tomes for 3 months+ is hardly "instant gratification".
Funny, that you say that. As fact would have it, I guarantee that if they didn't do the grind, someone else would use the exact opposite of your reasoning to leave. Something like, "oh a few friends are unsubbing and I will to because it's to easy" or something to that effect. There's really no win situation. But I'll take the grinding any day. I love it. I know a lot of people that do. I have friends that do. We all delt with FFXI and just something about it entertains me. But have fun. Bye
As a observer on this situation, I'd like to laugh a moment on how now all the people who were complaining before are now swimming in the tears of those who were content before.
I wonder how many times this boat will rock back and forth? With people being petty and quitting or picking fun at one another, tearing this community down further and further until nothing of worth is left.
Alternatively, I'd like to suggest you be tolerant of one another, and of changes in the game. Not every addition is meant to appeal to you specifically as an individual. It pays to be patient, flexible, and laid back when it comes to the game, as it is a constantly shifting beast.
I too feel like the randomness of the Fate Atmas feels inappropriate for the design theme of the game, especially after Yoshida decried the randomization of drop rates in favor of lockouts. However, this is not so much of a shift as it is an addition.
I'm personally not fond of the way gear is being distributed in this patch, at least as far as the alternative gear on the higher end market. Unless there are alternative means of obtaining Oil/Sands of Time and Unidentified Tomestones to doing Coil, then they've over-narrowed the field of gaining endgame gear tier far too much for my tastes, and I hope they change it or provide ilevel110 gear or the item drops in the next Crystal Tower tier.
For now, I'm willing to work at what's accessible to me and continue. Though, the griping and gloating is tiresome.
The problem with this community is there are two extremes that just like to belittle the other when the other party moans and groans about something. The open forums has made a pseudo-political system for Eorzea. Instead of realizing and acknowledging stuff can be implement to appease multiple types of players it's "LOL, bet the hardcores are mad now." "LOL, casuals want easy; me like challenege." There's a very easy way to solve this and this "instant gratification" argument is ignorant at best. It's not instant gratification to no want to WASTE hours upon hours for no cause. Even working you get PAID weekly. Seals? XP for my 50? Yeah, totally worth. I'm so super glad I've wasted 12hrs trying to get what I want out of a game I paid for. Have I seen any progression what so ever for any of the effort I've put into the game? Nope. Grind your FATEs, reward us when we've completed every single FATE in a region. Why, pray tell, would this be bad in any sense of the word? RNG sucks, okay well we'll let you have one after you've wasted at LEAST an hour of your time, typically more to get one of every FATE. But no, it will never happen because blind support of the game in lieu of someone else not enjoying the game. Psychology and sociology at its finest, people never learn.

Can you please tell what mmo you don't have to grind where you get everything on a silverplate?
The only thing I notice is that when the FATE zergs stop, it will become slightly more annoying to get Atmas, as some FATE in certain zones are horrible to attempt to solo.
Past MMO's requiring a grind doesn't mean new ones should as well. Constantly evolving games for constantly evolving people. A grind where there is no progress whatsoever is ridiculous. Leveling. Progress. Raids. Progress(Experience, new mechanics learning, teamwork progress.) Extreme primals. Progress. Coil. Progress.
What progress is being had here?
