So am I correct in assuming that, while the patch notes said there were no items unique to Quick Exploration

Exact opposite actually - there are items obtainable only by Quick Exploration according the the patch notes.

From the notes:

"Quick Exploration
Upon reaching level 10, retainers can undertake quick exploration ventures. Retainers assigned to quick exploration will always come back with a single item, which will remain unknown until the venture is completed. The amount of experience earned will vary depending on the item found.
* There are no items unique to quick exploration ventures."

It's the Exploration (18 hour) Ventures that the notes say may bring back unique items:

"* Although retainers will procure items randomly, higher-level retainers may procure items, minions, and crafting materials unique to exploration ventures."

First Quick Venture I sent my retainer on netted a Stone Riviera Mansion Wall.

Usually I'd ask where she got it, but after seeing how Retainers have the power to defeat Primals alone, I think I'll just smile and nod.

Its impossible, since retainers dont have "Jobs". Only classes, so this means you cant equip them with relics or artefact armors. Doesnt stop you from gearing them in Allagan, so theres that.

I got a Magician's Hat today. Probably the best thing I've gotten so far. Sadly, it just went right to my retainer to hold, since I have i90 head for summoner and i80 head for blm already. >_< I may keep it for shiggles, though.

I got a good III materia yesterday. Put it up on sale, and sold almost instantly.... But I left out one "0" so that really sucked.

Aside from that, my two retainers basically went fishing for 5 hours. C'mon - bring back another wall or something interesting.
