Maybe SE will add a toggle for those of you whining
Maybe SE will add a toggle for those of you whining
I think that's pretty much the way it's going to go, toggle for EVERYTHING because there's always an outcry from the vocal minority who don't like change.
Edit: Should add - Not a bad thing to add a toggle, if people don't want to see it then more power to them. I'm sure most people will put up with it for the convenence, though.
I agree that the addition of this icon is a good thing. People thinking it will kill the challenge and uncertainty are most likely wrong. It has been said already, but an enmity icon will not make a tank better nor will it make fights easier, it has been proven in many other MMO's.
Also, as opposed to a % bar which in that case would make it easier to gauge your enmity, the icons with color codes is a good indicator and yet keeps you wondering how much enmity you can generate before getting the dreaded (if you are not the tank) blinking red icon.
So A+ for this addition, will only make it a more friendly game which can only make it more successful. Also this has nothing to do with casual/hardcore debate. A casual is someone who doesn't have as much time to put in the game as a hardcore player would, but a casual is in no way a lesser player than a hardcore. So this icon is not for casual players, it's for everyone to enjoy and take advantage of.
See, it doesn't even tell you everything. You still have to kinda guess how far you can go. So what's all whining about? Also, as opposed to a % bar which in that case would make it easier to gauge your enmity, the icons with color codes is a good indicator and yet keeps you wondering how much enmity you can generate before getting the dreaded (if you are not the tank) blinking red icon.
I'm surprised they didnt show a screenshot of this enmity icon.
Probably because they know how ridiculous it's going to look. Enemy name, life bar, level/aggro icon, enmity icon.
When all is said and done, the Eorzean landscape will be a sea of icons and indicator bars.

i'd like it to be more like a meter, also when you have all the hate and the meter is red a red fog should resonate from your character.
There are games with enmity meters as default or with plugins. There are some very obvious examples. I can tell you it becomes very tank and spank forcing developers to use tricks "Like resets, and random switching, etc".
Basically it only drives scenario developers further into a corner. It's won't effect us as it does the future, we'll see how the extra burden will help or hurt them. It's their choice.
