took me 459 fates to get 12 atma.
Just another great example why i hate this RNG crap, Congratz to you and no offense at all, but i'm easily over 400 fates now and i still do not have one single atma to show for it.
And people keep saying Well its supposed to be hard blaat blaat, yea... ITS NOT HARD! its just so boring and even frustrating that after 24hrs grinding i still am on 0%!

I can't say I am enjoying the Atma grindfest either. Honestly, the rare drop part isn't what bothers me. The problem is that FATEs are a terrible way to gate content like this. None of them are difficult at all with all of the people that are running around doing them, so it's just a tedious chore. Mount up, run to the nearest FATE, level sync, hit whatever buttons I can actually use at that level for a minute or two, pray the RNG gods are smiling on me, repeat. If I wanted to be bored to tears I wouldn't be paying a company money, I'd just sit in a chair and stare at a wall. Maybe watch some paint drying or some grass growing.

Now if they had done something like tied these to dungeons? Great! Much more engaging, and as a side benefit if I don't happen to get my drop I at least got something for my time in the form of tomestones. Maybe put one atma as a very rare drop for the main boss of each of the level 50 dungeons, possibly up the drop rate a little to compensate for it taking longer to try and get the drop, so that it ends up at roughly the same average time. Heck, I wouldn't mind if it took a little longer, since I'm getting something other than just the chance at an Atma. Voila, all of a sudden I'm actually having fun even if I don't get what I want!

Maybe there's a reason that wouldn't work but it's just a quick thought of a way you can have your low drop rate, intended to take time content without boring your customers into quitting your game. Not as many of them, at least.

I'm also comparing two final fantasy games with somewhat similar battle systems. The key words in that sentence being "final fantasy". I don't even know how to respond to the rest of what you wrote.... If you're not satisfied with the current relic quest then maybe just devote an hour a day in a certain zone, then rinse and repeat. There are so many posts about people who "don't have enough time" to do this quest, and in the same post they claim they have been at it for 10-20 hours straight. I'm sorry, but that is directly proportional to having enough time to do it. I know that it can be frustrating and that's why I used the example from ffxii. Low drop rates have been a part of rpg's since their inception, embrace the reality

And once again, Low drop rates are not the problem here, the problem rest within the fact that the only way of obtaining this crap is by doing boring fates often Lv 5-20 fates. Spamminng 1-2-3, because lets face it, most fates wouldn't kill you at all. There is no challenge here, hell, Give me a hard dungeon that will woop my ass, IDC thats fun! its hard, i need to learn & adept! But this? Feels like a f'in casino game. Roll a 1000-sided dice and if you happen to roll 666 twice in a row you're the lucky winner of ONE atma.

And the time, Is also meh. i spent give or take 24 hours atm. 0 atmas, 24 hours doing boring fates is ALOT. 24 hours doing fun dungeons/battles, i don't see the problem

I'm not arguing that that sux, it totally does. Some areas allow you to do 40+ lvl fates though, and you are getting gil and seals as well(plus fate based items which I got a ton of/ I also maxed out my seals). I guess I got incredibly lucky 12 times in a row, but it really doesn't feel that way. It still feels like I put in a lot of time. I guess its a "don't hate the player, hate the game situation" but it has only been four days since 2.2 dropped, and I haven't been through even half the content. I'm really digging it so far and my atma weapon is really just a small part of that. I'll be able to get my first upgrade for my shield today, but its still gonna take awhile.

had to cut down the quoted due 2 many letters

I agree, and ofcourse i'm not hating on any players although sometimes i feel the need to strangle one when he finds a atma on his 5th fate
But its just so frustrating when over countless of fates and over 24hours of time i've yet not seen one atma drop. And yes i'm loving the content so far, but this part atleast for me its really frustrating, I really enjoy the new dungeons love them alot, And the sidequests are alot of fun to do, Leviathan fight is one of the best fights out there imo(besides it being a tad easy) But thats why we have EX mode. But this Atma thing is just eating me up. Piece by piece by soul is just evading.

And ofcourse i wouldn't mind if some people need to do 300 fates more then someone else in total, But at this point i've done more fates then most people with 12/12. Because they have been extremely lucky somehow.

It's not hard. It's stupidly tedious. It gets worse when you need to get 13500 tombs for the 9 books after the 12 Atma. I find doing the actual books fun. But the fact that I need to run 34 dungeons per book is just ridiculous as well.

Best part of all is that when you get an Atma weapon. It's just a Lv100 weapon with Lv90 stats..

It's not a great design but I see why they did it regardless if we agree or not. It keeps people running the old content for other players that need it and keeps zones populated. You can't get them all in a day. That sucks as I have finished mine and almost done with first book and I know others that are still struggling to get their 2nd and 3rd drops.

At the same time the drop rate shouldn't be so low but it isn't anything that should be handed to you either. Hell look at how long it took to get a relic in XI and all that really took was money. This takes time instead. The bigger hassles is getting the myth for the books imho.

There are other options to people iirc there are multiple weapons to get that they added.

Actually, I've seen the new players complaining that they can't even do the FATES because of the level 50 swarm that swoops in and destroys them before they can even get there. I understand the reasoning behind it, but the implementation isn't well thought out.

I spent the entire weekend running FATES after I got my dailies and dungeon runs in. Probably spent 16 hours or so on FATES and have 6 ATMA to show for it. I don't mind hard content, I don't mind gating content and slowing people down. I do mind having my upgrade path be blocked by a mindless grind and hitting the same 3 buttons over and over since all my skills are greyed out.

I'm not going to quit, but I will say I'm incredibly frustrated with the design of this.
