I tried to tank Turn 1 for the first last night and failed miserably. Of course they wanted me to silence as well and I haven't tanked anything significant since Titan HM and that's not really saying much obviously. It doesn't really seem that difficult, but it was definitely daunting the first time and has made me a little hesitant on trying it again.

I swear, I get so excited and wanna log on and go for it.. But then I remember people not following marks, running ahead, or just plain rude.(and yes sometimes I make mistakes and they aren't received well from party members. this is also a problem the rudeness) then I just talk myself out of it. And then the primals oh man titian and garuda..
For the people who don't follow marks or run ahead, screw em for not paying attention to the tank.

And yeah, rude people are rude, can't help you there ,_,

Best thing to do is go find some friends in your world, like a linkshell or FC, and run stuff together. Don't worry, the primals aren't too bad. Titan HM is actually the easiest to tank between the 3 hard modes.

Wow we're pretty much at the same point in the game with same job!
Someone suggested using flash on mrd. Can you use it as war and does that make any sense to do it?

I'd rank Flash as highly useful, its functions are few but important. I personally use it:
    • to keep generating aggro in the 5 seconds after Berserk, either because something else spawned and caught me off-guard, or just because I don't want to stand there doing nothing (don't ask healers to clear Pacify, honestly they have more interesting stuff to do than spend 2.5 seconds clearing a 5 second debuff),
    • to alleviate the pressure on my TP during long AoE phases,
    • to catch spawns without needing to target something first, in the cases where I forgot to prepare 5 Wrath stacks for Steel Cyclone,
    • to generate aggro on something I'm not supposed to damage - the prime example here's the Snipy Plume when fighting Garuda EX.

Just watch you MP carefully because they regenerate very slowly.

Anyone who is tanking learn this at low levels- Don't stress.

Practice trying to get hate back, and do what you feel works but if you done a few shield lobs and flashed around and nothing happened, give up while at that low level and keep going forward. You could also be Practicing numbering mobs and if the DPS can't read, that isn't your fault.
Just picture this your training round, because come end game content, your skills will be better and you'll have your 'niche' on how you want to keep hate.
Also, if you are in an FC you'll probably be playing with the same/similar groups of people who will probably have more patience than an elitist pug. Tanking is a tough job and those who freak out because you can't keep hate at level 18 just haven't tried tanking. My main is healer (and now coil bard), but when I tanked at a low level, I got a new respect for tanks

Don't fret. Things will get better

Oddly I am loving WHM which I refused to touch in FFXI.
Hah, you're like my complete opposite, there! I was (and still am) a career WHM in FFXI, and consider myself to be quite talented at the role. I tried it out in FFXIV, though, and found that it didn't appeal to me - while PLD was a lot of fun.

Having played both WHM and PLD in this game, though, I gotta say that it's been my experience that people who are jerks about learner healers are a lot more common than people who are jerks about learner tanks. My favorite was a guy in my first Garuda HM (as WHM) who, incredulous that a duty finder group could possibly wipe on something as easy as Garuda HM, was asking why I wasn't healing people. Naturally, I was TRYING, and said so, so I asked if there was a particuarly method I should be using. To which I got the awesome response, "Just heal, lol!"
