forget those fkers, they're not important
just try
theres a lot of things in life you only get one to few chances to succeed or fail at, and playing a tank in the duty finder isn't one those things

As long as you can hold everything and arent taking so much damage the healer cant keep you alive, it shouldnt matter if you, as the tank, break a sleep. I'm bad about it. Out of habit I'll use circle of scorn and there go all the sleeps!
As far as tanking itself goes, it's not hard, but it will take a little time to get into the role. Start at lower levels and ease into it (assuming you already have a high level tank, as Scott above does). Tell your groups that you're learning, if it makes you feel better. Often they will be patient with you, and if nothing else, they'll be more likely to understand and forgive your mistakes. You will run into the difficult people from time to time, but that cant be helped.Try to ignore them, if you can or ask them to stop. if they are being insufferable, just leave(I dont condone the idea of "my way or I leave", but you dont have to deal with harassment). If it makes it any easier, just remember they will generally be waiting longer than you for another go.
Most importantly, you just need to do it. You'll never be able to overcome that anxiety if you dont do it. You'll get better at it with time.

There is no need to worry about rude people while tanking.
Honestly, I barely read chat in duty finder groups when I tank. I only really look for comments like: "Healer is AFK!".
I do get pleasantly surprised at times and meet nice people and have a fun chat while doing a dungeon.
But often it's just someone saying stuff like: "This dungeon is so hard so it's ok if I wipe us by watching tv as we play it!".
It's ok to be a "strong silent type" if you are a tank. :P As a good salesperson would tell you, when someone presents you with some kind of choice, the first one that speaks loses. Best to not feed any trolls.

I have been super nervous about tanking, too! I'm actually relieved to see that I'm not alone. I don't even know what it is for me… It just seems to be held in such a high regard and I don't consider myself a very high quality gamer and I have zero experience tanking. But I want to try it. I'm only a level 28 gladiator at the moment. It's been slow going because I feel too scared to queue up with strangers. I try to only go with my FC mates.

You’re not the only one Miah'to. I started this game as an Archer, but along the line i switched my main class to healer because i love to play the support class. However, since we had a shortage of Tanks within our Ranks, i decided to pick up the Sword and Shield and level a tank.especially paladin with very little AoE at lower levels and not knowing the dungeons inside and out :/
I swear, I get so excited and wanna log on and go for it.. But then I remember people not following marks, running ahead, or just plain rude.(and yes sometimes I make mistakes and they aren't received well from party members. this is also a problem the rudeness) then I just talk myself out of it. And then the primals oh man titian and garuda..
It was an entirely different ball game and it was a very bumpy road for me.
I was always trying my best to keep hate and with every single encounter is was “afraid” i would lose hate and get people killed. At the beginning, i could manage if i was fighting no more than 3 enemies my party members would only attack the one i marked.
I mostly leveled my tank with at least a few friends, so would know how i play / learn my class. But, there was always 1 (my little brother) who would purposely try to get hate from me. It was his idea of fun, while trying to teach me how to handle difficult situations. Even though it did help me to learn my class better, it did not help my confidence in my tanking skills.
It might sound strange, but with each new level, it got harder for me to keep hate since the packs of enemies would increase as well as the hate generation of my fellow party members.
By the time i got to 50, even with all the skills made available to me, i had so much trouble keeping hate in places like Wanderer’s Palace. Around that time, everyone had their Zenith weapons and were walking around in iLevel 90 gear, while i was still swinging my Ifrits blade in my Materia melded Heavy Darksteel gear.
I lost hate at almost every pack and i hated that… I really did. I was nervous with every battle, fearing that i would lose hate on one or more more enemies.
It even made me think that i wasn’t cut out to be a tank and quit tanking altogether.
I talked about it with a good friend of mine, who was tanking since the beginning and asked him for advice. In the end, it had to do with my rotations. I wasn’t using my skills to the best of their abilities and there was a lot of room for improvement.
I worked hard on improving my skills, by taking his advice to heart and change my rotations. Step by step.
I’ve worked my way up to tanking the Hard Mode primals and it took me a while to stop shaking after each battle.
Right now, i’m tanking Coil Turn 1 through 5 with my fellow Company members and Tanky friend i mentioned earlier. I’m not going to lie, tanking is still hard for me and i take every encounter very seriously. I don’t want to “fail my party”, so i’m still nervous when it comes to tanking Turn 5 and Titan Extreme (i still have to clear both of them).
The best advice i can give you, is not to give up. Talk to other tanks and try to get some advice on your rotations for the content your doing. Keep practicing with people you can trust and you will get better.
Credit goes to Niqo'te for her fabulous art in the "Nique's happy fun time!"-thread and Nix/Capa for the Caitlyn drawing to the right. \(^_^ )/
Give her your support by liking their art!
I leveled marauder and it terrifies the hell out of me, but I still do it anyway for the practice. I leveled it solo for the most part so I used guildhests to get a feel for party set ups. Then after that I started moving on to low level dungeon. I'm not even going to touch gladiator since, to me, it seems much harder than marauder lol. XD
If people have issues with mistakes then they've either never tanked before or have forgotten what it's like to be learning the class.
Try not to let it get to you and do your best! I won't lie though, it gets hard after a while when everyone is rude about it.

Everyone can make mistakes and take harassment from rude people.
You'll see it all the time, everyone's in the same boat, so don't worry too much about it.
It's a learning game and once you've gained the experience, there's no going back, all smooth sailing from there.
Anyway thanks guys, ill give it another try..
P.S. damn servers always down![]()
at lower levels lets say 30+ when whm gets regen, make sure to remove it before u pull. i always start with shield lob -> flash, also mark #1 target to do my combo, with some flash in between to get more agro ahead of healer. the amount of flashes required depends on how much dmg ur taking and how much healers are you receiving for it. ( its easier with sch because of fairy sharing hate ) . I recomend getting the best gear possible to minimize healing required, see if u can have a friend make hq tank gear for u its worth it.
tanking is not hard just need practice. anyway, if your lazy like me may i recomend warrior? i find warrior's over power is lazy's mans way of controling hate. start battle with 2-3 over power that are well positioned that gives you pretty decent hate protecting your whitemage or healer, then you can build hate on ur #1 target safly. i recommend warrior as its easier to control hate i find, specially when you get berserk.
1st rule of being a tank = Develop thicker skin (IRL)
If some troll manage to slip in some hurtful comment all you need to do is.....
