This statement makes no sense whatsoever when the game has a party finder with item level. The "discrimination" occurs on the party finder, not on the examination. No one ever makes a party by examining another player.
You've never tried to join a manually formed party lead by eliteists have you?
No, but anyway:
What is really the trade-off? Instead of spending 1 sec viewing the item level, spend 10 checking every piece?
Want it or not, if you can see all the pieces, you can know the item level.
So, the feature per-se is not adding any new information, is just less time consuming.
That's why it makes no sense to me.
