I agree with you 100%, Gearscore was half the reason i stopped playing WoW to start with. Got so sick of being told even back in WOTLK that my Disc Priest was undergeared for the LK(normal 10) fight, yet i was sporting the title AND weapon from killing him.

@The OP, if they're in the dungeon with you, they're of the right ilvl to be there, So the only thing preventing you from clearing any given content with them is knowledge of the fight and/or player skill. You don't need to know their exact average ilvl.
