No. I just don't want people to judge how good I actually am at playing based on a few lower level pieces of gear that i haven't gotten the opportunity to change because people don't give me the opportunity to get better gear. Letting people view your gear just gives them the chance to moan and kick you for nothing. Glamor + getting a prompt allow/don't allow would help a lot.

No, it's practically the same thing. Your problem isn't with people looking at your gear. Your problem is with people judging you on it, which they will do ANYWAYS. Even with Vanity.

The World of Warcraft community became very toxic and judgmental over item levels after the Gearscore addon was released. I am hoping that average item levels not only remain hidden, but that when addons are supported there will not be anything allowed that automatically calculates and displays other players' item levels, either. If you really want to know what your party members are wearing, feel free to examine them. But elitism should not be easily encouraged.
You do know that blizzard added it in themselves, right?

And if I agreed with everything Blizzard did, I might still be playing WoW instead of ARR.

There are many people who feel Gearscore marked the beginning of a clear decline in the quality of WoW's community. Elitism will always exist, but suddenly it was taken to a whole new level. If Blizzard had taken a stance on the issue like SE's devs are here, perhaps things might have been different.

    Again, Hvinire, thanks!

No, it was always at that level. Tools are tools. Numbers, such as ilvl are just numbers. It's people that abuse a system. And it's other people who RESPOND to that abuse that makes it worse.

And if you don't give players a tool by which abuse can be done then those who would abuse it will have to settle on other means by which to exclude others. Like setting the party finder iLevel requirement to stupid levels. Either way, keeping your iLevel between you and the game is an intelligent move on the Devs' part. There's already enough vitriol in the community as is, don't need more.

I beg to differ. After Gearscore came along back in Wrath of the Lich King, I ran The Nexus with a group in the dungeon finder. One person in the party threw a fit because someone's gearscore wasn't high enough for his liking. I can't remember what the numbers were like back then, but he wanted everyone to have a score that was on par with Ulduar/Trial of the Champion raiding gear, which was absurd for the low level of difficulty of the dungeon. He initiated a vote-kick, which was rejected, so he spent the entire run griping. We got through the dungeon just fine and there was no reason for the drama.

For those who didn't play WoW, that's like trying to kick someone from The Wanderer's Palace for not being i90.

I never saw that kind of jackassery before Gearscore. Please, we don't need to encourage that kind of elitism in ARR.

I agree with you 100%, Gearscore was half the reason i stopped playing WoW to start with. Got so sick of being told even back in WOTLK that my Disc Priest was undergeared for the LK(normal 10) fight, yet i was sporting the title AND weapon from killing him.

@The OP, if they're in the dungeon with you, they're of the right ilvl to be there, So the only thing preventing you from clearing any given content with them is knowledge of the fight and/or player skill. You don't need to know their exact average ilvl.
