They're a currency but aren't classified as such when it comes to storage. We don't keep tomestones, gil or company seals in our physical inventory so why is it different for ventures?

Not every coin count as currency. Even beastmen coins or Allagan coins are stored in the inventory.
Yea, I thought that was strange too. Then I thought, oh maybe we can trade these coins with other players.... nope. They are marked as an Untradable item.

Because now we have to pay for extra retainers. A.K.A. square enix is going to purposely flood our inventory so we are forced to buy more retainers.
