Leviathan battle opening cutscene - Leviathan roar

Regarding Leviathan battle opening cut scene - we see it making a battle roar. But if Leviathan is a fish, it can not roar, as fish don't have lungs. It's the same principle as watching explosions in space in movies.
Well, technically there are few species of fish that use swim bladder to generate sounds, but Leviathan kind of does not look like piranha to me.
Is Leviathan a mammal? A piranha? Or are the sounds generated by magic? Transmitted directly to mind through telepathy?

It would be nice if the lore team could comment on how exactly Leviathan is able to roar, so I can enjoy my immersion in the game.

It's not even that - Leviathan is a Primal after all, an entity made of aether given corporeal form, pure and simple. It is not a living creature and therefore doesn't breathe air nor extract oxygen from the water like a fish, as it has no need for that. It simply exists due to the worship of it's followers, like all Primals. So the roar you hear could easily be on the aether and not be actual sound at all (it would probably the same way Bahamut was able send his roar across Eorzea while still being bound deep within the Binding Coil. But I digress...).

Ifrit Bleeds, we can kill it.

For one thing, I think we're over thinking things. Leviathan is not a Fish. He's a Sea Serpent. That implies he's reptilian. Another point is that a lions roar is not made through vocal cords, it's made through forceful vibration of cartilage, which doesn't require air. In fact, cats purr using the same mechanism. Also, as Enkidoh points out, Gods need not air to speak. This is a magic realm. Listen to Gardua's distorted voice. It's possible primals can communicate through means other than speaking as we know it. Also... We're seriously over thinking things if we're talking about this subject in a game where a giant sentient crystal talks to us... On a regular basis.

If all other explanations fail, Leviathan doesn't say or roar anything, our characters are just schizophrenic.

Just tell yourself that the aetherial mass that holds everything together within (see Bahamut screenshots) is capable of forming emulations of all sorts of things, including but not limited to vocal chords. That's how I reasoned Titan could talk, that's how I'm gonna reason Leviathan can roar. Fact is, he's just more threatening if he has a roar. Myself, I was hoping that he'd hiss a deep, airy hiss that bubbled and fizzed like waves crashing on the beach and that he'd speak in drawn out, cracking whispers - being, I mean, water serpent. But hey, if he roars he roars.

Final Fantasy 8, summon Leviathan and hear him roar. Nobody questioned it back then?

The Sahagin that summon him into being appear to be sending air over vocal chords as well. I'd say Primals represent the architypal supremacy of whatever sentient group summons them. So if Sahagin can vocally express, then why not their super-man ideal?
