Seventh Umbral to Seventh Astral Era?

Hey Lore Guys!

I've just checked the lodestone quest database, and apparently, everything after 2.0's main scenario takes place in the Seventh Astral Era! Have I just not seen this before, or has this always been the case?

Have we really moved from 7th Umbral to 7th Astral with patch 2.1 onwards?

Yes, at the end of the storyline quests in 2.0 the three leaders declare a new Astral era.

Personally, I think they're premature in doing so, but they do do it.

Oh yeah... now I remember that.

So all the Eras prior to ARR have lasted centuries, and this one lasted what... 5 years, 2 months?

We'll be in the 8th Era for 3.0 at this rate!

There was a discussion about that early in ARR service, and the general consensus was that the three nation leaders legally could declare any era begun or starting on a whim technically, and hence even if did seem a little premature of them to do so, legally, after Operation Archon Eorzea is indeed in the Seventh Astral Era, even though Bahamut is stirring, the other Primals are being resummoned and the Ascians are still around. But Garlemald's invasion has been virtually halted, if not ended completely for the time being, which was indeed the most pressing matter.

Also it should be noted that Ferne confirmed that an Umbral era only lasts for as long as whatever is causing the 'darkness' remains - in which case, from a certain point of view, that was the Garleans. With Gaius defeated, that's no longer the case. Hence, the declaration of the Seventh Astral Era.

So yeah, Eorzea is, narrative wise, in the Seventh Astral Era now, even if from a wider point of view it's still the Seventh Umbral Era.

Yeah I'll still be updating my thread, it's updated whenever I find/read/see a new date. The reason why I haven't added new 2.0 stuff is because it's happening in the now. If we progress further than the current year I will add significant things to the Seventh Astral Era. Think of it more of a "past" calendar as I'm mostly worried about adding all the "past" events with dates into the timeline as we learn the history of the previous Astral and Umbral eras.
