I think it's a stupid method for only a slight upgrade, with the amount of work you have to do to upgrade it is ridiculous

If pigs can really fly, I wouldn't care about anything else!!!

Sadly there is no "Slight Upgrade" other than them putting ilvl100 and just changing the color. The stat changes don't occur until you start doing the books...So yes this quest is pretty ridiculous.
Well to be fair if you do 10min speed runs or less in Brayflox HM and leave rinse and repeat that would be around 45hours to get the tomes.....

Thumbs up!You guys are just stucked in the "I must have this because why not". I got a sort of news for all of you : since the start this was never designed for everyone to be rewarded. So get over it and find something else to do aka, Levi EX / Coils ?

I love that the devs added something that is a grind and a gradual upgrade. It's a relic weapon. It's an option for those who feel it's worth the effort. It's supposed to be special, even if it doesn't have the best stats until it's fully upgraded. It's a nice nod to old-school epic grinding. Thanks, SE.![]()
Another problem I can identify with this questline is that it absorbs people so much that a lot of their time is spent doing activities by themselves.
- Hey wanna do- — No! Must farm Atma!
- Hey, anybody want to run a dungeon? — Yes, a weirdly specific dungeon which I can only bring a specific class to, so, no thanks, I'll go DF it by myself!
- I know you're working on your SMN relic, but could you come heal for- — Sorry, no, can't switch out while I'm killing these mobs for my Trial.
Hyperbolic illustration, but I use it to demonstrate how most of this questline is pretty much: every Eorzan for herself. The majority of people are not socializing in FATE grinds. When people speedrun Brayflox HM for the ridiculous amount of tomes required for Trials, they do nothing but, it's completely impersonal. Playing other jobs which is a key feature of the game and helps fuse different groups together in different situations takes a back seat to people focusing on this questline.
It's nothing like the original Relic quest. The original Relic quest used to bring people together to do things like Chimera, AK, or Titan HM. It inspired people to repeat the questline several times for different jobs and roles which they'd in turn use to help other people on the questline.
Atma/Animus is basically nobody giving a damn about the others and just plodding along. It's very anti-social in its design, requiring help from nobody, and not promoting any real sense of team play.

The books are worthwhile and follow old style grind that rewards actual effort which is nice. The FATE grind? There's nothing memorable or grandiose about it at all aside from just being badly designed and executed, literally nothing worth mentioning, remembering or praising once you've gotten lucky enough, because it's all entirely based on luck, aside from just being thankfully finally done with it. No feeling of accomplishment or reward, simply just nothing worth thanking anyone for.
Facing the same issue, most of my FC/Friends quit, the people still playing doing ATMA and book farming, they wont do anything else.
you see people asking for help in dungeon or primal and no one will help anymore, before 2.2 if anyone asked for titan EX or HM and relic quest from start to end all will jump in, now everyone is for him self, doing his own thing.
i really think this patch did more bad than good to this game.

Hardly anyone logs into my FC anymore since 2.2. Its very depressing!Facing the same issue, most of my FC/Friends quit, the people still playing doing ATMA and book farming, they wont do anything else.

http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post2016270people have give valid point into this thread about the trouble link to that. you? nothing exept be rude and don't give any proof that this system is good. a looot of people, most of the community saying is bad and you say is not. give us a valid reason of it's good. but i doubt you can.
Isn't that coverin the
of your answer ?the main point of the mmorpg is not raid, nor pvp, nor grind (like you say) but to meet and do thing with people.
They did this for a reason : people were not doin fates anymore in certain zones because of the change that happened in 2.1, there was much more activity in dungeons because it was much more rewarding, for every level bracket.
Its not a perfect compromise by any means because it create more problems, but its just for now while everyone is grindin.
And so is pretty much 100% of the PvE content regardin loots and drops in dungeons / trials and raids.all of this for say it's a big time sink... for solo player more than group player. i play with someone and i can't see how we will be able to complet it together, since get atma is totally random.
You can farm together while havin a chat on teamspeak and stuff like that, its a part of the social aspect of the game. Or just beein in a group but not in the same zone.
Besides, havin things to do as a single player is also a part of the experience, if you re into well playin your class and practicin on a dummy I doubt you ll have some funny talk all the time meanwhile.
And btw, I'm not beein rude at all, I don't think I've insulted or beein mean to anyone, I'm just sayin something that look like "get over the fact that not everyone will be rewarded".
We can have a chat and we'll probably agree on the conclusion that will be "but why puttin such unfairs (and that precise point, the fairness, is also so subjective depending of your personnality it ll just be a conflict of point of views again I'm afraid) conditions for the upgrade of the relic when it was much more reachable for the initial one"
I'll answer that its precisely what the community asked for. People have been complainin that it was much more of a time sink and a rewarding feeling to have a relic in FF XI, bringin all kind of examples on the table and when SE deliver the "exact same concept", all we can see are complains.
So I don't know really. Maybe all the players around here are just bipolars that feel sad when they can't be instantly rewarded while they just scream to have something meaningfull to grind for.
Also, not everyone got allagan weapons, including very serious raiders that downed Turn 5 for months. Remember, 1 chance to have a weapon, per week. Do you see 100 pages of complains about it ? no, they moved on Levi EX already and pray for more luck.
Meanwhile some others like myself downed turn 6 with their good ol' ilvl90 weapon, while craving for a Levi EX one :Pyou see people asking for help in dungeon or primal and no one will help anymore, before 2.2 if anyone asked for titan EX or HM and relic quest from start to end all will jump in, now everyone is for him self, doing his own thing.

i donno how many ppl bring up the point that relic is optional or i down turn 6 with ilvl 90 or stop asking to be handed with gears. some people do not raid, some people do not care about gearing up, some ppl only care about collecting full set.
different player have different play style. yes relic is optional, so is raiding or pvping or doing levi EX. the issue here is not because ppl complaing about not getting relic because they want to get relic. they made the choice to get relic because that is their gaming style.
What ppl complaining is the rng being bullshit. i myself get 12 atma in a day. yes a day with less than 12 hours of grinding while queueing for CT as dps. that means i farm less than 12 hours since everytime i enter CT it is about 30 min off from the 12 hours.
However i also get days without any drop. 4 or 5 days with zero drops.. what this told me is that u can get 12 in a day and other can get zero forever if rng are just unkind to them.
think before you post please, u are missing all the key point of this feedback.
