Hold on a second, you think if a mob has a 1% chance to drop an item and I sit for 8 hours killing it to get that item that I'm not grinding? I guess I just use the word differently than you. When I did my Insane achiement in WoW it was "grinding for librams", when I did my Rivendare mount I was "grinding for the mount", it's the same way someone grinds for Fleece in FFXIV. The low drop rate doesn't mean you're doing something other than grinding fates.

I still don't see how forcing yourself to do content you don't want to is anyone's fault but your own. I mean I can agree this isn't a meaningful or compelling way to implement a time consuming weapon ascension, though when you try to do what is obviously meant to take a number of weeks to accomplish in a number of days, well it's no wonder you're going to be upset. I can totally agree that this is a lame way to implement a long-term grind, but all these people who think they should be getting this item in a matter of days need a serious reality check. It's almost like, I'd like to have a problem with their implementation but all the people who want their new item in under 4 hours are just putting me off.

The implementation is bad, sure, but if you can't just turn on the TV or some music and mindlessly grind away then you probably just shouldn't even attempt it.

I think you're missing the point. First off, a lot of people will not have an issue with grinding. Very few are actually complaining about the second part of the quest and are in fact welcoming the continuous content that will be provided because of it. The only bad part of the second phase is that FATES are required, which the community has already shown they don't like fate quests.

The RNG is the problem, and it's the fact that SE thought it was a good idea to actually use this idea in the first place. "The implementation is bad". You even agree, so why are you defending it? This is something that doesn't make sense, if there's a bad design, why would you want to defend the design? I'm not bashing the game because I don't like it, I'm being critical of it because I want it to succeed. This type of mentality that SE went with has already turned a lot of people off of the game, and there will be a few more that will continue to leave until you're left with essentially the FFXI community (a little over exaggerated, but the point still stands).

SE is playing a tricky game, and I understand the situation they're in. The MMO community as a whole is so drastically different it's scary, and SE has does a very good job at satisfying both the hardcore players and casual players for the most part. Weekly lockouts make it so those with copious amounts of time don't breeze past the casual community, and the primary seperator is skill in the long term (remember, still a new game, they can't release uber-difficult content until the game is ready for it.. but I am liking the way it's turning out with the new sets of coils). They're providing different paths for people to gear up as well. Don't want to do Animus? Leviathan is there. Don't want to do coil? Gear up with myth/soldiery items.

That being said, I'm curious as to what the community managers are going to say about the issue tomorrow. I have high hopes for this game as it's currently the best MMO I've played by far, most can't keep my attention and others either use cheap tactics *cough* or have other issues that veer me away (still can't understand why 1 class per character is the norm.. doesn't make sense to me). This game will have it's ups and downs, but my hope is that it will "eventually" fix the issues and make it an enjoyable game for MOST that wish to play it.

I don't know... Until you've played a game like this http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...ght_Chronicles, which is 101% grind (online Co-op, with RPG single player, basically an instance based MMO) I don't think you can complain about a game that you can spend only 40-50 hours total to get a good weapon.

I played WKC, WKC2 and all the MH games... So I think I can complain, because those were actually fun.

Isn't that pretty much like FFXIV?

    Online Co-Op = Instance
    Single Play = Game world

The only difference is that there is more grind in one of them. ;p

62 hours with 10/12 atma. And Runescape is similar in terms of grinding (literally, pure grind from lvl 1).. and you're still missing the point.
