THIS IS MADNESS!
THIS IS MADNESS!

Guess I'll throw my voice up here too and say that making people go grind fates in zones for their weapon upgrade was probably the laziest design choice someone could make. Repeatable content has a finite life span, and the FATE system dies once we hit level 50, have no reason to get any more Grand Company Seals except to throw our NPC retainers out to do mission board stuff ala Final Fantasy Tactics, and get access to the beastmen dailies: Which at least award money and shards for crafting.
And yet SE have nothing to say about this, not even "working as intended".
Make no mistake guys, this system is here to stay to help the upcoming PS4 players with FATES.

You know a buddy of mine said the exact same thing. But I digress after finally getting all of 12 of my atmas some taking 9hrs or more per each one I still hate the idea even thought when I got that last atama that I needed I was so excited but yet in still those 9hr spans were brutal and I wish they would fix the drop rate so others won't have to suffer I mean I get the whole random thing but hell when a fc member of mine can get 9 in 24hrs and you can't get one in almost 12hr yeah somethings wrong.
I got 6 in the first 2 days with 200 FATE done, and from that day till now i got nothing, i have 862 FATE done as of today. You know a buddy of mine said the exact same thing. Not to gloat, But I finally finished this damn quest last night.
I started with 2392 fates and I ended with 3246 854 FATES!. It took me more than 40hour over the last week. This quest is pretty ridiculous, It should not have taken this long. SE you need to fix this drop rate to be 1 in 50 or less. I don't know if some of the players are just full of it but there were a few saying that they were on their 2nd and one guy said his 3rd relic. This isn't really a fair quest across the board, Especially when people had it done in less than 12hrs. Yes RNG is RNG but for stuff like this it needs to be done differently, Its not so much the Fate Grind that's the problem you don't know how long it will take. You could get an Atma the next Fate or 200 Fates later.
The best party I made almost 200k in GC seals so I don't think I will run out of ventures any time soon.

Literally every single person complaining about atmas falls into at least one of 3 categories. 1) Grinding needs a set goal no matter how high it is (which I'm sure if the system was that way they'd complain about that too). 2) This is the be all, end all weapon and I want it. 3) I don't have the time for this, or the group for Levi/Coil. I will address each of these.
1) Top down action RPGs like Diablo and Path of Exile, by this argument, should be the least popular games ever and not sell at all. Top tier loot is based entirely on RNG, and that's all the game has. No other progression options. But these are some of the most popular RPGs today.
2) Allagan will always be slightly better or equal to Relic. Invest your time into coil (btw, c2 turns 1 and 2 can be done in i90, fyi) and get that. Might take the same amount of time to get an i115 weapon as it does fate grinding, and its better. Which leads to......

Yes, it's totally not like they have any redeeming gameplay value otherwise (that's sarcasm for the sarcasm impaired). Path of Exile's popularity could have nothing at all to do with it being a decent *free* Diablo clone. Blizzard totally didn't completely revamp Diablo 3's loot system in Reaper of Souls to address the loot system being random in a un-fun way.1) Top down action RPGs like Diablo and Path of Exile, by this argument, should be the least popular games ever and not sell at all. I would also like to point out in games with similar loot systems as Diablo, drops are pretty high frequency. Typically the quality of said drops are little more than vendor trash or not even worth picking up, however rarely you get something nice and even rarer you get something amazing. But the important thing is the player does stuff, things HAPPEN. There is feedback. This is where the RNG implementation of Atma fails.
Even now people have voodoo beliefs and uncertainty about how it works.
Given you can just buy item level 100 gear from a vendor with currency you can acquire with very straight-forward non-raid content, the hoop jumping for an item level 100 weapon from non-raid content is rather absurd. Especially if it may not even compare favorably.2) Allagan will always be slightly better or equal to Relic. Invest your time into coil (btw, c2 turns 1 and 2 can be done in i90, fyi) and get that. There are a number of alternative implementations that could have both throttled rate of completion, given people a sense of progression, and provided actual interesting gameplay and challenge. Judging from what we actually got, it is unlikely they had the development resources to do so. It was probably one designer (to do the quest scripting) and 1-2 artist (to do the textures and any other art assets that weren't just reused from somewhere else).

So that's like saying vendor trash = fate drops (like sinews and dodo feathers), gold = gil + seals, and something amazing = atmas. Thank you for proving my point there. When I fate grind, things happpen too, lol.Yes, it's totally not like they have any redeeming gameplay value otherwise (that's sarcasm for the sarcasm impaired). Then don't do it. Literally the simplest answer that no one ever wants to hear. If you can get a weapon that is better WHY DO YOU CARE??
