I hope they keep the drop rate as it is. I enjoy the grind because it reminds me of the incredible feeling when you FINALLY do get your drop.

This is the only drop-rate quest in FFXIV that I know of that isn't 100% drop rate. Should've been kill all Extreme Primals, especially with the two new ones out... that actually takes some level of skill and feels like an epic end-game questline. This is just grinding out FATES with a horrid drop rate so that low-level players have people to run with FATEs with.
If you have the time to grind this out, you probably don't have very much respect for your own time. SE probably laughs their butt's off about this.
And once you finish spending *hours* using the character you spent *hours* to get to level 50 so you could get end-game gear and see exciting high-end content, you're now level and gear-syncing to farm unchallenging, unrewarding low-level content for a bad drop rate so new players can FATE grind and have a better leveling experience.
Let's pretend that isn't BS in itself - SE is basically employing bleeding edge end-game players so their new players feel like the world is more populated (I had next to noone to run FATEs with when leveling, anyone who joins the game now is going to think the game world is *that* populated when it's really just the endgamers being exploited).
Then let's say you get your weapon. Now you need 1500 Myth per upgrade. *Now* you're going to be farming things you've already farmed to get where you were *before* Atma weapon, to help new players learn dungeons/get their gear faster (because you have experience and can teach them all the fights) and keep DF queues going, so you can get abysmally low stat upgrades for a total of 6000 Myth.
And then what? Obviously you aren't taking that into new challenging end-game content, because if that existed you wouldn't be tempted to do this seemingly infinite grind in the first place - you'd be too busy with all that exciting, challenging end-game content.
This isn't content, or challenge. It's mindless. Rather than giving challenging new content for all the people at the end-game wall, we get one new raid tier, 3 new dungeons that are knocked out in one attempt by all the people that were already at that end-game wall and gives them abysmal rewards for doing so (because the new dungeons are for fresh 50s, *not* challenges for established endgamers that something like "Lost City" was claimed to be), and a soul-sucking grindfest that makes us repeat all the things we've done to get to where we are because we wanted challenging content.
Giving in to what SE's provided because you're addicted and need that upgrade, however minor? Have some respect for yourself. Grinding for Atma weapon and upgrades does more for new players than it does for you, and it isn't even fun.

I will train a Monkey on how to teleport, press one button and walk around a map for Fate grinding for a possible item. That's all you need to do new relic quest anyways. That would save a lot of time, pacience and sanity.
another close minded who dont understand whats going on.
you could jump in a zone do 2-3 fates and you get the atma, or stay 6+ hours or 2 days even and not get anything.
if they say kill 100 mobs, and slay all mobs in 6 HM dungeons, and kill all primal HM & EX, it would be fine with me since i know how it begins and how it ends and can work on it.
but do fates and you might get the item in 1 hour or 1 month (depends on your luck). that's stupid.

I hope this really is getting read.
I feel betrayed. Yoshi has been quoted many times about making sure that what is in his game is fun. How is grinding endless fates with no sense of progress hour, after hour, after hour fun? Yes, there are some masochistic former FFXI players out there that get all steamy eyed about this nonsense but that is certainly not the feeling of most players.
I"m all for rewards taking some time to get but I'd like them to be due to things I can measure and predict and that reflect my skill and accomplishments to date (gear). When I do well, i get rewarded. Not when I spam mindless, no skill, soul crushing RNG events over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, .......
There's alternatives to the relic upgrades for people that want more consistency btw.
Like the leviathan EX weapons. ~1/9 chance the weapon for your class drops. Can't say much about the mirrors though.
Relic +2 taking time, okay.
Having it be done through a boring, tedious and meaningless manner? Meh.
On top of that, also have it be required to be on a character which already has a relic weapon, essentially making all the hours invested in gather kills completely useless barring the atma drop once in a blue moon? Truthfully, one of the worst game mechanic decisions I've seen in MMO's over the past couple of years.
I personally don't have (much) issue with the new relic quests. Sure I would prefer a more interesting version, but oh well. I personally like that kind item acquisition to just a random drop that your FC can carry you through.
I do, however, have a huge problem with the reward. If I'm going to put that kind of effort into something, I expect to have a comparable reward at the end of the tunnel. Spending 15 to 100 hours farming fates to get an identical weapon with a new skin isn't a reward. Now I can get +2 to a stat for killing 100 mobs, more fates, several dungeons, etc....and if I do that enough times I finally get the "upgraded" relic. So now after all that work, I have a weapon equivalent to the "weathered" weapons that everyone who hasn't wasted their time with this has had for a month.
IMO, the Atma weapons should be equivalent to the "weathered" weapons, and the Animus should be equivalent the "unweathered" weapons.
TLDR Keep the quests, make the weapons better
18 Hours! 18 Hours to get a single piece! There aren't words to describe how disappointed I am in this quest.
Do other games do stuff like this? Sure, and that's why I liked this game more, because it wasn't some endless slog through ridiculously low drop chance RNG farming. Nothing in 2.0 or 2.1 were near this level of stupidity. I don't mind the thousands of myth you need for part 2 either, since at least you know what you are getting into. This however? A complete waste. I didn't do any challenging content and I got absolutely nothing for my trouble. Meanwhile some people get all their pieces in 4 or 5 hours.
