The thing is, You can make up the other stats elsewhere but you can't make up weapon damage anywhere. For a PLD, historically, the widely accepted BiS stuff has always first met accuracy cap, and then focused on Parry and Vit. That being said, I haven't looked enough at the weapons/gear to see if accuracy is needed on the weapons, nor have I made a BiS list this go round. I was more just pointing out that getting Parry over say.. Crit or Determination has always been the choice. The only time it wouldn't be is if you were having trouble holding aggro, and for some reason needed more dps to do so.
Also, with dungeons in DF, regardless of what gear you wear, you're gonna be fine if you have the high ilvl stuff. So saying "you're a bad tank cause you go for x stat" is just you being a jerk. A dumb jerk considering the stats you mentioned are two of the most sought after for a PLD.

Without looking at the rest of the gear, and without using the weapon.. I can't say whether or not the parry on the weapon would be more useful than the extra threat/damage a higher weapon damage would provide. It may not be about making the stat up. It's probably more along the lines of "you get the parry on the weapon or you don't get the parry on the weapon" and weighing between the two. Dismissing weapons with Parry just because they're lower ilvl, or because other weapons have higher dps stats is just as dumb as assuming that just because a weapon has Parry it's automatically going to be BiS... which was kinda my point.

Sigh.. i've been grinding FATEs for hours today and yesterday, and I have a grand total of zero atmas to show for it. One of my friends has 6 and the other has 9. I have my Zenith equipped. I don't get it :/

Even if I accept that the RNG was absolutely critical for this aspect of the game (which I'm not), why couldn't this have taken place in higher level zones, so I could actually feel like I got something out of it? Right now, only 1 fate will actually give me anything per zone, and that's the one where the atma drops. All others were rewardless wastes of time. But if we were in, say, Northern Thanalan, I could actually feel like I'm accomplishing something.

Because the bottom line is that this is probably SE's attempt to "fool" lower level players into thinking that there is activity in the low level areas. Otherwise they'd be ghost-townsEven if I accept that the RNG was absolutely critical for this aspect of the game (which I'm not), why couldn't this have taken place in higher level zones, so I could actually feel like I got something out of it? When one way conflicts how others enjoy the game it's not as easy as "enjoy one of the other quests". I want the Curtana Animus because, imo, it is the best sword I can get. I get that you like the unkown factor, but there should be SOME consistency with the drops. 4hrs for a full Animus or 12hrs with not a single 1 is poor implementation. Allow people to do their grinding, but make a backdrop goal that gives, AT LEAST, a higher drop rate. Like, for example, random drops available as you do FATEs, after completing every FATE in a region the drop is 100%. You're still going to spend, tops, 12hrs for the Atmas and then have to farm 13,500 FATE. It's not instant gratification, RNG can still help you out and have you spend 4hrs instead of 12. BUT YOU'RE ALWAYS PROGRESSING. AND THAT is what matters.I would rather have the unknown factor in the game to get these items because kill this many or do this many to me is a chore/job and is not fun for me. Again this quest isn't for everyone, if you don't like how this quest is set up, enjoy one of the other quests. Some people like to grind scripted fights, some people like to level off quests, some people like a little of everything. Just because one way doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean you should condemn the way, because it's the way others might enjoy.

Ive done 1 fate since 2.16, for the Sahagin, and got one. Its gonna really suck trying to get all the others for me now.

on a plus note, hey they didn't lie when they said the vast majority of players wouldn't have the relic done before 2.3

I personally don't care about grinds, I played FF XI I'm used to it. But this isn't FF XI and there's no reason why something that until now has been the antithesis of the game's approach to content suddenly becomes "This person finishes in 5 minutes and you don't even finish after 5 hours".
Yeah... although, I was imagining something more like "Here is an incredibly tall mountain, go climb it". Instead, we got "I have buried a single penny somewhere on the planet. Find it."
edit: actually, no. Earth has a finite mass, so eventually you would find that penny. This is more like "I will move the penny to a new location every time you don't find it"
